Fellow Preggos (especially former stomach sleepers), please tell me: How do you sleep now? I need help.

I always slept on my stomach, but now that I am close to 22 weeks it is becoming more and more difficult.

I try lying on my side, but I wake up every morning with pain in my back and hips.

What does everyone else do? How do you position the extra pillows?

Any advice would be really appreciated. I need some good quality Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am struggling too. I have the body pillow and it doesn't really help me. Everyone else raves about it. I have severe hip pain (both at this point) and I can't fall asleep after 3am. At 33 weeks I tell myself its good practice for when the baby comes. Sorry I can't help......

I have bad hip pain, too. a pillow between the knees helps. I have a big king size pillow that works well.

Even with a body pillow, you will still be going from side to side. That hip/back pain won't stop...sorry, but I'll be honest. At least you'll be more comfortable for a little while until you have to turn to the other side with a body pillow.

One thing pregnancy has taught me, sleep cannot be taken for granted!!

I think we all have the same issue.... My only saving grace during the hip pain months was the last trimester!!!!!!!!

I am so tired now, and I think the hip spreading has finally ceased so now I sleep like a rock - with the exception of getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom 4 or 5 times..... Chat Icon

I alternate between a pregnancy body pillow and a bunch of regular pillows. The pregnancy body pillow feels great for my hips, legs, belly... but I end up with neck pain when I use it too much. When I use the regular pillows I put one between my knees, one under my belly, and one behind me. I sleep partly on my side and partly on my stomach and it is very comfortable.

Being that all of our bodies are diff, I don't know that there is one set way that would solve your (and every other preggo's) issue.... It has to be what is right for your body..... Chat Icon

I'll try that thanks, Julz.

It's so funny that you mention the pillow behind your back because last night I started leaning on DH (using him as "pillow") and doing the half stomach, half side thing. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But then he moved and ruined it. Chat Icon

Its really hard!! I was a belly sleeper only, and really didn't sleep as soon as I popped unfortunately...

And the weird thing, I can't sleep on my belly anymore after having DC!!! Chat Icon

Same here. I do still get hip and shoulder pain but I do switch from side to side during the night. The snoogle really helps alot.

Re: Fellow Preggos (especially former stomach sleepers), please tell me: How do you sleep now? I need help.

I'm halfstomach sleeper too and I have to totally surround myself with pillows now. One behind my back, one (little guy) under the belly, one between my knees. If DH is there, I'll throw a leg over him too just to keep the pressure off my hip.

I think we're doomed either way. I still wake up at 3am every day and am awake rubbing my hip/thigh trying to get the numbness to go away.Chat Icon

I was a major belly or back sleeper. A good body pillow helps. Mine is a candy cane shape. also another king pillow on the other side of me when I roll over. I need to have something between my knees. I am getting used to it. just hard when you roll over because you have to roll 180 degrees to your other side ( not just 90 to your back or belly) Hang in there.

It's not easy! I remember that I would give ANYTHING to sleep FLAT whether on my back or belly Chat Icon

Get a body pillow and put it between your knees. I would lay halfway to my belly and at least I could get some rest.

Re: Fellow Preggos (especially former stomach sleepers), please tell me: How do you sleep now? I need help.

I also use a body pillow and it has to go between my knees. Its the only partial help I can get for the hip pain. I also was waking up with wrist/arm pain and it ended up being carpel tunnel. So in addition to cuddling up to the body pillow, iIwear 2 very unattractive wrist braces to bed. I cant wait to sleep on my stomach again......
