My fiance is Cuban and we love the restaurant that's just called Cuba, though it's a little pricier, and was a little noisy later into the night when we ate there. We also stumbled upon Favela Cubana just this past weekend - it was 2:30pm and completely empty, but it was freezing and snowing and it looked really nice. It was delish. It's also Brazilian there, but we only tried the Cuban food. Obviously, since it was just us, it was very quiet. ;)

hmmm...
SOmething that is smaller and not too loud is Havana, Alma de Cuba. It is in the village on Christopher and Bleeker.
It is really good.
Son Cubano is fun but I wouldn't really consider it very authentic and it is very loud.
My parents are Cuban so I am always seraching for some good Cuban food...surprisingly difficult to find in NYC. But like I said Havana Alma de Cuba does the trick !

I've been to Victor's Cafe a few times - I really like it there - great food and not too loud.
I've also been to Calle Ocho on the UWS. The food is very good, great drinks and nice ambiance.

I also love Cabana's - but the one on Austin Street.
The one at the Seaport is big, loud & I feel the food isn't as fresh as the one on Austin.
The one on Austin is small & very quaint. No reservations though...but worth the wait IMO.
