Fav hotel in Orlando (not Disney)

What's a great hotel to stay at that's reasonable and not a Disney hotel.

THank you!

We love Marriott Harbor Lakes. It's closer to Universal than Disney, and across from Sea World (not a SW fan, but it's right there if you are). It's a Marriott Vacation Club, so they have kitchens, etc. Two great pools with tons of activities, mini golf, etc. The units are remodeled and very nice. We have stayed there numerous times. You can book on Marriott's site, or rent a stay from someone on ebay, VRBO, etc.

Another vote for Hilton Bonnet Creek. But, it's booked when I'm going so I'm looking for something else.

We usually stay at the Sheraton Vistana Villages and love it.

I've also stayed at the Ritz for a conference and it's fabulous but, not always reasonable, I would think it may not be during spring break.

Re: Fav hotel in Orlando (not Disney)

Honestly, I’ve stayed at a bunch and even those under $100 a night are really decent. Pools are everywhere, good food is a short drive away and I find the difference is the “theme”.

If you go to Orbitz, you can check them out.
I’ve stayed at the Radisson in Celebration (under $100), which had beautiful grounds, 2 pools and nice rooms. It was nicer than Carribean beach at Disney (Note: the hotels may have been updated, this was just before kids).

My sister stayed at Bonnet creek and loved the grounds though she said the room wasn’t great.

The JW Marriott has an amazing pool set up. It’s also a gorgeous hotel. It’s priced 200-300 a night.

The Ritz and 4 Seasons are priced along the lines of the Grand Floridian and Polynesian.

The big issue is the commute time to park gate which will be anytime from 30 minutes to an hour offsite. With small children, this may be a deciding factor. For me it was never an issue (I just go to park later and go home for the day in the evening).

We stayed at the Hilton Orlando. It is right down the street from SW and very close to Universal. Disney is a short drive. It is near a lot of shops and restaurants, and has an awesome pool. We could see the Disney fireworks from our room.

Agree. I went a few years ago and stayed at a hotel in Celebration. It was $79 a night for a 2 beautiful 2 br, 2 bath, suite with full kitchen and w/d. Nice pool. Plenty of stuff to do around the area. Took 1/2 hour to get to Disney. But we went early for a character breakfast and there was no problem. We got a parking pass for the week cheaper than by the day. Come and go as you please.

I kept checking for Hilton/Waldorf Bonnet Creek and couldn't get the room type we wanted. We ended up doing a split stay at Portofino Bay for Universal days and Springhill Suites Flamingo Crossing for Disney days. Love Portofino and would have been ok staying for Disney there too, alhough it's about a 20 minute drive to Disney. The Springhill Suites is fairly new and only about a 10 minute drive to Disney. IIRC, TripAdvisor reviews said they have no shuttles, but we had our car. We went to the parks every day and basically carried the kids from the car to bed at night, so I can't comment on facilities, but it was a decent room at a reasonable price.

Stay away from vistana villages. We were there 2 summers ago and they had bed bugs. There was one crawling on my daughters bed! And my niece was bit by bed bugs during our stay and she was in a different side of our tower. The manager refused to admit that the whole tower would have an infestation and only quarantined the room we were in staying it was only on that room. It was a nightmare. And the floors were dirty. The kids' feet were black after walking on the carpet for 30 minutes. The mgr told us they only shampoo the carpets every 6-7 months. I've heard from friends that Bonnet Creek is nice.
