yes you can. it's easy- go to your list of friends. to the right of their name will be an x. click the x and then they are deleted!

Do they know they've been deleted? Like is a message sent? Or is found only if they click your name?

the only way they know is if they try to view your profile and cant or if they notice that you are no longer on their friends list.
they are not sent notification.

They might see you on the "people you may know" feature if you have mutual friends.
