energy star and home remodeling tax breaks
why am i being told those are no longer available to claim on my taxes? is my tax guy wrong or can you no longer claim home improvements or energy star appliances?

You can definitely do this...a friend of mine just did it!

You can't get a tax break for appliances like refrigerators, washers, dishwashers etc though if that is what you meant.

Your tax man is most definitely CORRECT.
You CANNOT deduct any windows, energy star appliances, insulation, roof, etc from your 2008 taxes.
You were able to do this in 2007. And you will be able to do this again in 2009. But for 2008 tax year these deductions are not available.
There are only a select few energy tax credits you can claim for 2008. Solar is the big one.

Those items on page four are fair game for your 2009 taxes (meaning filing in early 2010).
You cannot deduct those items on the taxes you are doing now (for 2008 tax year).
