eggs over easy...

Are we not supposed to eat them? Today I had a bagel with eggs and cheese and after I ate it I was wondering if we are even allowed too (it was a little runny). I only eat scrabbled at home. I know raw eggs may contain salmonella...but how high is the risk? I'm assuming low....ugh there is sooooo much we "can't" eat!

Re: eggs over easy...

I would ask your doctor about this but I wouldn't take the risk with them being under cooked like that, but maybe your doctor will say it's ok...

I have them about 4 times a week. They are yummy. Im sure you will get other answers. I like a runny yolk sometimes. I NEVER ate them until I was pregnant. I am a well done egg eater normally. Ask your dr, mine said "moderation is key"

Re: eggs over easy...

the inside of a raw egg is sterile as long as the shell is intact.... it's the shell that could be contaminated with salmonella...

but odds are against an efficient bacteria transfer to make you sick.

eggs can either be washed prior to cracking, or most effectively, briefly dipped in boiling water before cracking open... then you're garanteed a safe runny egg

I eat them......

Eggs themselves sterile....the Salmonella contaminations comes from the outside shell................

If you are really worried you can drop the egg into boiling water for 20 seconds and any contaminants on the outside will be killed.

Re: eggs over easy...

Generally it is safest to eat fully cooked eggs during pg. I used to eat over medium eggs but won't during pg (but have had an aversion anyway so it has been easy).

Unless you try what wannabemom suggested if preparing at home.

I like runny eggs a lot, but I haven't eaten them since getting pregnant. You could always talk to your doctor and see what he/she says.
