ear infections/tubes

Any help with this? My ds has had ear infections since Dec 10. Basically he gets a cold, gets an ear infection, goes on antibotic for 10 days. After about three days on antibotic the cold seems to clear up. Finish the antibotic, and 3 days later he gets a cold again which leads to an ear infection. It has been a horrible cycle. The ped. keeps telling me tubes - I really don't want tubes....but now I'm reconsidering. We went to the ent last week, and at that time the ears were clear (we had just finished up the antibotic).....so he said to come back in 5 weeks.

So any words of wisdom? My ds is in daycare, and of course my ped said that is what it is from (way to make me feel even more guilty). Anyone have any experience with tubes? Or did you ride out the ear infections. I was hoping with the nice weather they would clear up - but instead it turned cold again.

Chat Icon I have no advice but we are in the same boat and have to make an appt w/an ENT the next ear infection he gets. I am sure they'll recommend tubes. I hear it works well, and avoids repeated courses of antibiotics which is bad for them. However I'm not crazy about him being put under for the surgery. So I haven't made up my mind yet but I totally hear you about the guilt w/daycare, it makes me want to cry.Chat Icon

A co-worker is going through the same thing with her little girl. Her PED wants to wait till the cold seaon is over with and see if it stops in the spring, and if they keep recurring, then she will go for the surgery.

Re: ear infections/tubes

Sydney has had 6 ear infections and will be getting tubes next week.
The ENT even said that she has been on antibiotics for 1/2 her life and that made me so sure of getting the tubes.
