Ear INfections.... Anybody up please??????

So, DS is 18mos. Has a history of ear infections. This is probably his 9th one at least. But, this time it's worse. Ran 104.3 fever last night, been on antibiotics, two doses already. Tonight he's not running a fever or anything. Ususally this kid is a FANTASTIC sleeper. Tonight and last night he won't sleep all night. OK, last night I understand, 104 degree fever.... but tnight? Is this a habit already from being up the night before, or is this still related to the ear infection? What do you do? We usually CIO, it's the only way he'll go to sleep... Ok bottles too at night Chat Icon but that didn't even work tonight. He goes to bed just fine but wakes 4 hours after crying, which he hasn't done since 8 weeks old.... I need some sleep and he does too but neither one of us can get any..... What do I do?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it takes a while to get them over the ear infection, and especially get rid of the fluid in their ear, which is freaky to an adult so I can't imagine for them. When DS hasn't felt well, I will typically hold him and fall asleep with him across my lap or on my shoulder. I've done the glider in his room or our recliner couch. That way we both get a little sleep.

I hope it gets better!!!! Chat Icon

Oh, I WISH he would let me hold him or rock him while he slept, but he won't, never has. That's the problem. He just has to lay down and USUALLY the bottle does the trick at night but naps and middle of hte night he just puts himself right to sleep, until the past two nights. I'm just exhausted and have definitely now confirmed that he is going to be the only and only DC for us...Chat Icon Nights like these last two have made me feel like I was not cut out to be a mommy Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and it's breaking my heart....

Sorry to hear he isn't well, my son has an ear infection now, I usually give him a medicine with something to help him sleep in it. Have you got anything like that? Good luck!

What do you give him? I only gave him Motrin for the pain, and of course he's had his antibiotic.

that is exactly how my DS is. he has to put himself to sleep. everyone tells me how lucky i am (and i agree - it is the best when i am home), but it can be a pain when we are out or when he is sick.
my DS gets ear infections a lot too. i remember with his last one i was so upset bc he would only sleep if i was holding him (so out of character for him) and i thought maybe this was a new trend, but right when he started feeling better he went right back to his old routine. he is probably just very uncomfortable right now!

dont be so hard on yourself - it is very frustrating when they are sick and cranky -- ive been there, i know how hard it is Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would not think that diarrhea is related to the ear infection. Is he cutting his 2yr molars? My dd is about the same age and she is cutting her molars and has had some instances of diarrhea due to the excess saliva Chat Icon

Yes, we think he is but it seems like he has been trying to cut them for quite a long time now. Is you DD waking at night and not going back to sleep?

no, but I can count on one hand the times she has woken up in the middle of the night and not go back to sleep

the few times she did this, is was due to an ear infection Chat Icon

That's the thing, me too. That's why I'm at such a loss.
