Due in 5 weeks and having second thoughts on delivery - spinoff to c-section v vbac

I've had my first son vaginally. He was 8 lbs. I had a c-section with DS2 because of his estimated size. He wound up being 9lb 4oz when I had the section at 39 weeks.

I have the option this time around. My docs think I can successfully have a vbac since I've already delivered one baby. I still do need to wait and see at 38 weeks how big they think this baby is. This might be a moot point if she is big.

I always thought I would just have a c-section because I want my tubes tied. Now I am having second thoughts. Even though my recovery from the c-section wasn't really that bad, thinking about recovering from that in the middle of the summer just sounds so miserable. Plus now with 3 kids I feel like I need to take the path of least resistance recovery wise.

I'm due on 8/10. C-section is scheduled for 8/6. I suppose there is a chance I could go on my own and just have her vaginally. But then they won't do the tubal until 6 weeks as an outpatient. But they're already trying to steer me away from that and either to IUD or have DH get a vasectomy. I really just want to get it taken care of right away so I don't need to think about it anymore and there is no chance that we will put it off because we can't make a decision.

Growth sonos can be off by over a pound, so I wouldn't use that as the sole reason for a csection. JMO.

Someone once told me that if I had a problem deciding between two options, to flip a coin. See how you feel after getting your "answer." Are you relieved or disappointed? Use those emotions to help you decide.

Since you can't Chat Icon for six weeks after the baby, wouldn't that buy you some time to decide about your tubes anyway?

I am no help as I could have literally written your post. Vag birth with DS, then had a c/s with DD (breech) and now have to decide what to do for DD #2 due in Oct. I keep going back and forth for the same reasons as you, plus DH works an hour away and I am a little worried about what happens if baby girl decides to make her appearance during rush hour.
I am leaning towards the VBAC just because the idea of the c/s recovery with 2 small kids at home is daunting to me. But my 2 close friends have told me that the recovery from their 2nd c/s was much easier than the first, so who knows.
I would think that if you are rethinking it at this point, maybe take another look at doing the vbac? If things dont progress you can do the c/s then.
I will be reading along to see what you decide :)

ETA I am curious as to why they are steering you away from tying your tubes at the same time? That was a plus in the c/s column for me too.

Thank you both.

If I get the csection they have no problem tying my tubes. It is if I don't have a section they would "prefer" another method of birth control. I just feel like DH and I will drag our feet even past the 6 week mark and not have made a decision on what to do.

Bliss, sounds like we're in the same boat!

Yikes, that is such a big decision only you can make BUT

I'm sure there are still the normal associated risks that go along with a VBAC even though your first was a VD and sounds like you are a good candidate. That coupled with the sound decision it sounds like you have made about having a tubal would make ME personally opt for the c/s-tubal at the same time.

I really was adament about the c-section this whole time. It's been this past week or so where I am second guessing my decision.

I had an appt today and my doc put it to me this way. If I go into labor before 8/6 we try a vbac. If I'm not progressing than we do c-section. 8/6 is the end date. if I don't go into labor by then then we just stick to the c-section. So we'll see. They won't give me the c-section before 8/6 so I suppose it is what it is.

Thanks everyone for the advice!
