Driving to Florida--- What state do you stop in? Where do you stay?

We will be traveling down I-95 month, and I want to stop somewhere. Where do you stop and where do you stay? We normally drive straight through...but I want to relax this time!

We drove down in March and stayed in Jacksonville. I don't remember the hotel though.
My inlaws drove down this past weekend and when they do, they stay in Santee South Carolina. They get there like 2-3PM, relax, have dinner and walk around (I believe there is shopping).

You can stop in Virginia or North Carolina.

In NC, Rocky Mount is known on I-95 for a stop on the way South.

In Virginia, people usually stop in Richmond but it's easier in NC since it's right off I-95.

On the way down to Key West we stay at La Quinta in Jacksonville and on the way back we stay at a Holiday Inn right after you get into NC.

We drive down every year and this year did it twice. We drive to Fayetteville NC which is about 10 hours (with bathroom and meal stops) we stay at the Double Tree which is right off I-95 and the rooms are great and not to expensive. We used to live in Fayetteville and this hotel has been there forever!!! Also if you are looking for a noce stop for lunch the next day there is a really cute and cheap restaurant right off I-95 in Southern So. Carolina called Jaspers Porch it is on a Lake and has a really good southern buffet for 7.95.

If you prefer to drive through to South Carolina Santee Hampton Inn is also nice.

Have a safe trip

We have driven down twice before and we usually wing it :) We see how far we can go without getting crazy exhausted and look for a hotel that we recognize and stop there. Last year we went down for the holidays and on the way down we made it to just outside Savannah and stayed at a Hampton Inn. On the way up we stop in Wilton, NC which is just south of the VA border, and stayed in another Hampton Inn. In Virginia we ate at a restaurant called Dixie Bones that had awesome barbecue and the best sweet tea I have ever had.

My family has driven down over 20 times. My parents ideally like to make it to Southern South Carolina or Northern Georgia. They usually just stop somewhere random off of I-95.

check out http://www.i95exitguide.com/

my family use to stop in south carolina on the way down, Emporia virginia on the way back.......

when we went in October i was checking tripadvisor and there was someone who said their was crime in Rock Mount NC. We stayed in Emporia on the way down, but Roanoke Rapids NC is another good option.....

if you stop at the visitor center they have hotel books that you can usually find a great deal in.
