Smiths Pont

OUTER BEACH RECREATIONAL VEHICLE PASS:
To obtain an outer beach recreational vehicle pass, applicant is required to provide Green Key Card and vehicle registration. The person whose name appears on the Vehicle Registration should match the name on the Green Key card, or reflect a relationship between the two (marriage) Please call the Parks Department for more information if this is not the case. If the vehicle is registered to a business or corporation, applicant must produce documentation on company letterhead, signed by principal of the organization stating that the vehicle is assigned to the applicant for personal use. In the case of a new or leased vehicle where only a temporary registration is available, a Bill of Sale or Lease Agreement must be provided when purchasing the ORV permit.

*Only one discounted Outer Beach pass can be purchased per discounted green key card. Additional Outer Beach passes must be purchased at the resident rate.*

Re: driving on the beach

We got ours back in April & it cost $75. I'm not sure if they have a cutoff date to purchase them though.

You want to let at least half of the air out of your tires in order to drive on sand. If you leave your tires fully inflated they will put too much pressure on the sand and you will dig in as you spin the tires..... think about trying to walk through high snow... you need snow shoes.... same principal.

It also helps lessen the potential damage/erosion to the beach since you won't "dig in".

You need a whole list of things:
fire extinguisher
shovel
tow rope
compressor/hose
there might be a few others, they'll give you a list...and the rangers DO stop ppl and make sure they have all the supplies!
