drinking coffee when breastfeeding?
I started to notice that when I BF my DD she gets terrible gass (rips off and SCREAMS in pain) often. This is mostly during morning to afternoon. I usually drink coffee in the morning - because its the only way I can wake up... But I am starting to think the gassy cries may be caused by coffee
did anyone experience this? how do you not sleep and not have coffee?

I would have one cup a day -didn't seem to affect her. But try giving it up and if that helps, well then....

My DS was colicky & gassy and would have long screaming fits! He also would wake every 1.5/2 hrs at night when i was BFing...
I was complaining to the Dr and he told me to run through everything I was eating...when I mentioned that I had coffee 2x/day my Dr flipped!!
I weaned him from BFing after that (not bc of the coffee LOL - it was a number of things), but while i was weaning i stopped drinking coffee and it was amazing the difference it made!!!

I heard the same thing that you really shouldnt drink coffee while BF b/c of gas and also chocolate is very gassy

If your DC is being affected by the caffiene then the tea would have to be decaf too.

i drink decaf or 1/2 decaf and half reg. she seems ok. but one cup should be ok as long as your not having alot of caffineted liquids during the day

If I dont have coffee I dont wake up! I give DD pumped milk. I pump daily but hours AFTER I have had coffee. Its a commitment (pumping) but I cannot give up my morning coffee...not unil I can get at least 5 hrs straight sleep.

I read in a BFing book that coffee really shouldn't affect breastmilk. Like 1-2 cups. It also said a glass of wine/beer every once in a while is okay too.
