Dr. Ferber, you saved my life too!

Well, as you all know, we've been battling AWFUL sleep patterns with Alex for weeks and weeks now. It seems the only way she would fall asleep is if I would nurse her, then rock her and jiggle her for a good 30 minutes, and even then, most of the time she would wake up at least 2-3 times before going to sleep for good. So, against my promise to never let her CIO, I decided to try it out, thinking that my girl has become so dependent on props to fall asleep that it will serve her no good as she gets older, and to add to that, DH and I just couldn't give her the love and attention she deserves while she's awake because we were too tired and sick.

So, we started on Friday. First night she cried 30 minutes and woke up every half hour crying for a few minutes and then falling back asleep. Second night she cried for 15 minutes, and woke up a couple of times, cried for a minute or two and went back to sleep. Last night we had a breakthrough! She fell asleep RIGHT away, and woke up only once, about 2 hours later, and cried literally for one minute and fell right back to sleep for another 3 hours. Then, when she woke up, I fed her, and she was still wide awake, though yawning, so I put her in her crib. I've never done this - I could NEVER put her in her crib wide awake without howling, but this time, I put her in her crib, she smiled at me the sweetest little smile, I kissed her cheek, said, I'll see you in the morning sweetie, and walked out. I didn't hear another peep from her for 3 hours!!! She fell asleep on her own!!! WAHOOOOO!!!!

I feel like a new woman!

Great news! As hard as it is to get through those first few nights of crying, it really is the best thing because all of a sudden they start to sleep! Jack now tells me "night night" when he wants to go to bed. It definately works

it's the best! Not only are you more well rested - don't you have a feeling of having more control over the situation?

Since we went to colorado and changed time zones I knew Talia would be a little screwed up - but I wasn't worried because I knew when I got home I would be able to fix her sleeping problems and get her back on a schedule. The first night she was a little screwed up - but last night she slept 7-7 and I am hoping she does the same tonight (fingers crossed) I think we underestimate babies sometimes...they are very smart, learn quickly, and are very easily adaptable!
