DON'T FORGET: SCHOOL BUDGET VOTE TODAY!!!

You might be sayingChat Icon but my DC is less than 2 years old, well... as a teacher I can tell you that what happens or doesn't happen in a district due to the school budget can affect a district for YEARS.

Studies have shown that it can take a district at least 5 years to recover from an austerity budget.

Many residents w/o children vote against budgets in large numbers. Ironically, those with young children often make up a small percentage of voters.

Most district have information on the budget on their SD website.

It only takes a few minutes and it's for our DC's.

Great PSA. We're going over in a bit. And we plan on sending our children to Catholic school, and we still vote for the district.

Glad you wrote this.

Catholic school kids still get their transportation and textbooks from their home district.

Many non-public school students who qualify for special ed services receive them from their home district.

AND, the value of your home is largely dependent upon the "perceived quality" of your SD. A district who has a hard time passing budgets will see a decline in the value of their homes. I teach in one of those districts and houses prices plummeted when the budget was voted down (2X) a few years ago... young couples bought in the next town over. And this is before the housing slowdown. They have yet to recover.

We went to our school district's website, and they had all the info there. Depending on where you live in the district determines where you vote. Even a relatively small district like Connetquot has three polling places, based on where you live.

As much as I *so* don't feel like getting up right now and leaving the house, I am going to vote in a few minutes. As a teacher and now a mom, I know how important this is!

Re: DON'T FORGET: SCHOOL BUDGET VOTE TODAY!!!

Actually, DW waited until I got home last night, so all 4 of us went together. DD "helped" me vote..... I had her in my arms, and there was one section where you had to pick two people for re-election, and there were only two running.... Chat Icon She helped to push down both of those levers.....
