Does your toddler have a real mean streak?

Since about 2 years old, I have noticed that DS has a real bad mean streak. Mean to the dog, and rough with other kids, etc. and as he is getting older, he is more vocal with his "anger". Its the strangest thing to see him so sweet and mushy with someone or something and then to flip like a switch and become MEAN! I am too embarassed to even say some of the things he has said when asked if he wanted a little brother or sister. I know he is spolied because I am a SAHM and am with him practically 24/7 and he is an only child (in the whole family) but being a spoiled brat is so different than being cruel and mean. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or experience. Thanks!

Re: Does your toddler have a real mean streak?

My older nephew had/had a mean streak. I think it is exacerbated by some sensory issues. I know that having his grandma watch him totally undercuts my BIL/SIL when they try to discipline him and he does not have consisent discipline, so he acts angry/mean when his parents try to. He is starting to come around from it (started around 3 and he is turning 6) and is more aware now of his emotions and what is/isn't acceptable.

Good luck! It is very trying!

He does, but it's only with me. If you ask any of my friends or family they think he is the sweetest child to walk the planet (which is a good thing I guess)

But, I apparently know how to push his buttons Chat Icon Chat Icon

Typically DS is a really good boy. Plays independently, sweet, cuddly, etc. BUT there are times when he can be very mean. He's especially mean to our dogChat Icon Yells at her, takes her toys, tries to hit her, etc. Sometimes he will also be mean to family members (tells them to go away, etc.) Luckily, it's not too often. I feel your pain!
