Does your DC have any cafe au-lait spots?

How many do they have? Was your ped concerned?

DS has had one spot on the back of his leg since he was born, about the size of a dime. He is almost 2 and I have noticed 4 others that have recently developed. They are super small. My cousin had several of these when he was younger however they were much larger in size and my aunt had to bring him to a neurologist to be tested for neurofibromitosis, a neurological disorder. My ped knows about the number of spots he has and has checked him but said they need to be larger than what they are to be cause for concern. I can't help but still worry though.

My DS has only one so I'm not concerned but tbh if he had four or five I would take him for a second opinion just for peace of mind.

My DS doesn't have cafe au-lait spots but he does have mongolian spots. He was born with big ones on his lower back/tush and in the first weeks, he got a couple more (on his knee, shoulder, etc.). They are small but they freaked me out. His ped said that it was normal and to just to keep track of them.

Are there any other symptoms of this neurological disorder? I would just make sure your ped understands your concerns and keep an eye on them.

My DD has one. I actually never mentioned it to the ped b/c I didn't realize it was cause for concern as I have 2 as well and my mother also has at least 1 or 2. Ped never mentioned noticing it to me either. I will ask now at her next visit!

What do they look like?? Dd has 2 of those red raspberry looking spots since birth, but the ped said they go away by the age of 7 or something like that...

my ds has a decent sized one on his back. ped never even mentioned it.
