Does anyone invest in the stock market?
Jim Cramer comes on before Penn Jillette and I've been catching his show once in awhile. It made me really think of investing in the stock market? Any tips?

DH does, through Scottrade.
I dont know too much about it. But he loves using them, you can go online and access your account.

I have a lot invested through mutual funds....as well as stock in specific companies. My financial planner does it all for me tho, and calls me whenever she sees something good. I am doing pretty well so far..

I invest in mutual funds but I just do everything myself. Research through morningstar.com, yahoo finance, msn, etc. Once I've narrowed it down I go to the specific website (vanguard, dodge and cox, or whatever company I'm looking at).

I would speak to a financial planner first. You just graduated college and are currently saving for a wedding, right?
They may give you some good advice on how to invest your money properly for the short term (wedding plans? house? apartment? bills? first job out of college?) and for your long term goals.

I mean, just basics, how much money do you really need? Is it better to get someone or just do etrade?

Mutual funds in several asset classes have been doing very well. Not all mutual funds are the same. Each invests according to it's perspectus so some invest in large cap stock while other invest in just India.
Individual stocks are a lot more aggressive then mutual funds.
Most planners have a minimum that they will work with. Depending on how much you have and what type of investments you want to put your money in, would direct where to open an account.

And a financial planner will help you to decide how aggressive you should be with how much $$....depending on your age, income, debt etc. they can help you decide which type of growth is best for you.
My mutual funds have been doing very well actually.
I also research before I go ahead on a buy, but I also trust her judgement when it is a small amout.

Mutual Funds 30%
Real Estate 50%
That's of the take home or net income.
Then there's the gross income and thats 401(k)
25% stock
75% mutual funds.
I have a planner through my firm.

It definitely helps to have someone to talk to and someone you trust.
I saw my parent's invest as a kid and I saved my money to buy some stock when I was 12 and I was hooked. I don't pretend to know everything, it's just impossible, I can't watch CNBC all day like my dad does (retired), but I do try to keep up with the business world with at least the Sunday NY Times and I will throw some names to my broker and she will come back with the info on the company and some alternatives.
If you do go through someone, make sure you understand the commission first. I pay a flat fee, but some brokers charge a percentage (like 1%)

Yes, I opened my first IRA with my own money when I was 18.
I have a Salomon Smith Barney Account and a great financial advisor who I meet with twice a year. DH and I recently comingled our accounts.
IT's really smart of you to start as early as possible. Every little bit helps.

we use sharebuilder.com as well and its great for starting out without a lot of $$$. They have no minimum amount of investment etc....
Its suited well for the beginner who doesnt have a whole lot of $$$ to invest off the bat.
