Does anyone here have any information on volunteering for a pet shelter?
I have some extra time on my hands and always wanted to do this, can anyone tell me where to start? I live in Selden so anywhere around there (or within 10miles or so). Thank you.

Petfinder.com lists shelter and rescue information on their website. A lot of those organizations have volunteer opportunities. Also most municipal shelthers need help getting the dogs walked and giving them some attention. That is how I found PAWS.

Save A Pet is not too far from you, they are located on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station.
I think they are always looking for volunteers.

I've volunteered at Little Shelter.
You goto a short 'orientation' seminar where they show you the grounds, fill out some paperwork about yourself, and that's it.
I volunteered in the cattery, I fed, brushed, played with the kitties, and of course cleaned out some litterboxes. They have over 300 cats there so there is plenty of things to do.
It was great - I wish I had more time to do it now.
