Does anyone here go camping?

Not in an RV, in a tent. Can you recommend a how-to book for beginners?

Thank you! Chat Icon

OK sorry, the closest I've ever been to camping was when I was surburned and had to chill in a Barbie tent at the beach.

Hit the library - I'm sure they have a whole section!

Re: Does anyone here go camping?

I tried it once for one night and I am not a fan. A Marriott in the woods is as close to camping as I want to get after trying it one time. Dh grew up camping I did not. I HATED it.

DH told me to read a book called "how to $hit in the woods" I have to say it was helpful Chat Icon

I've been camping a few times & always had fun. Check out the site below. I've been here before - it was a while ago but from what I remember they have shower facilities. The best part about staying here is that you have access to the rive for canoeing/rafting or tubing.

Re: Does anyone here go camping?

I love camping, although honestly haven't done it in a year. I love wearing hooded swetahsirts, snuggled next to DH in a chair in front of a fire laughing with family, drinking, roastign marshmallows.....mmmmmm.

I honestly never read a book on it, tho, since I've been doing it since I was a baby.

Is there something you want to know?

I LOVE Kittatinny!! My friend used to DJ up there and we would get our sites for freeChat Icon They have a pool, showers, store, gameroom, you name it. Definitely not the poopin' in the woods experience everyone thought it was. We partied like it was 1999 those few times we went upChat Icon Rafting was an experience thoughChat Icon

There are Dummies/Idiots guides to camping that I'll take a look at. Someone else recommended "How to $hit in the woods", too. Chat Icon

Potofluck, I guess I need a beginners guide kind of thing. I have a lot of silly questions. Chat Icon

My family started out camping in a tent and we loved it. My parents now work out east for a campground, however, they are in a beautiful trailer (they are there every weekend.)

I used to go camping quite a bit. There's nothing really complicated about it - you pick a place (preferably one with public restrooms/showers), bring a tent, food, flashlight, sleeping bags, etc., and have fun! Don't forget the insect repellant Chat Icon

... the spray type is a great way to start the campfire... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I used to go camping almost every month growing up, and two weeks at a time at a summer camp. Did backpacking as well. Did that for about 10 years or so. Haven't gone real camping in quite a while, though. The ground is a lot harder when you get older... Chat Icon Plus, with work and kids, it's not as easy. Once the kids get a little older, I'd like to get them into it. It's a great time, lots of fun.

Re: Does anyone here go camping?

my best advice is to go with people who have experience and you can learn from them. it's a hands on thing, I think. the hardest parts are pitching the tent (silly pervy giggle here) and starting the fire (ahhh euphemisms)
