DOE Teachers, I just took a look at the calendar.....

And it stinks......not Only does it stink, we loose two days (Veterans, Rosh Hashanah)

Total number of in session days : 187
2 days before Labor day
2 conference days ( Nov, June)

That is a total of 191 days...11 up from last year!

I hate Randi Weingarten! BOOOOO

This is funny because I just added up the days myself and was majorly upset. I remember giving three days with the new contract. How did we lose all of these other days?

They both fall on Saturdays and they didn't give us anything in exchange...December break is also so short!

I think 191 days is way too long

Honestly, I hope that there is someone out there who we can elect to replace Randi, before she sells us out again. Prior to the last contract, we were already working a longer year than the surrounding suburbs.

And when is Bloomberg's term up again? We can't negotiate another contract under him- we'll end up working year-round for less money. Chat Icon

Yea .. and the scary thing is that in October this contract is UP and we'll have to re-negotiate and will probably give EVEN more then last time.

And lemme tell you --- the pathetic raise is just not cutting it.

So we work MORE then the suburban schools and our salaries can't even compaire with many of them.

The sad thing is that I LOVE my school. Love my co-workers, can deal with my admins, and LOVE LOVE LOVE my kids. I love the population. But I'll most likely have to leave in a few years and start from scratch somewhere else because I am the breadwinner in the fmaily and I'm just not winning enough bread! Chat Icon

I totally relate- I took a city job because it was all I could find, but I have grown to love everything about it. My kids are amazing (and I'm so glad to be teaching them all for the second year in a row).

And unfortunately the mayor and chancellor don't care about retaining the people like us who are experienced and want to be there. They prefer TFA and Fellows and new teachers who, for the most part, aren't in for the long haul, won't make waves and are less expensive. Chat Icon
