We are having 50 adults and a few kids. We had a lot of problems with DS's christening when it came to people being seated but we had 75 adults for his.

What'da ya think?

We did a seating arrangment....I think it was easier or else you end up with those people who just don't "fit" anymore. Also, I have divorced, remarried parent issues so it worked out for us.

I don't thinkit's silly. We're going to do a seating arrangement for DS b-day because there are almost 100 people. Chat Icon

I do think it's silly, but I don't like them in general. I only did one for my wedding b/c the hall insisted. I feel like adults should be able to sit with people they don't know or don't like and $uck it up for a few hours. But my parents had a very friendly divorce, my dad's siblings still email my mom all the time, so we don't have too many "I don't like that person" going on.

Edited to finish, little fingers hit enter before I was done.

Re: Do you think a seating arrangement is silly for Christening?

it depends.
if it is at a place, then no, it isn't silly...
if it is in a house or yard or an informatl place, then I think it might be a bit much.

No...I like them. Things are more organized that way and the people who may not know others have a place for themselves without wondering "who should I sit with"

I did a seating arrangement...made it easier for everyone in the family but they also prefer that anyway.

Re: Do you think a seating arrangement is silly for Christening?

We did seating arrangements for DS's Christening party. We had 60 people. We felt it was easier that way after experiencing some difficulty with not having seating arrangements at showers, etc. There are certain groups of people who want to sit together and without seating arrangements there isn't always room at a table for everyone. So guess we did it more to have everyone sit with who they want, rather than to avoid certain people sitting together! Chat Icon

I think I might do them then. I just don't want to deal with issues again. I pretty much have an idea how to sit people.

Thanks.

NOOOO - I always do seating arrangements. I hate going to parties without them -- where people have no idea where to sit!

I hope you don't me me saying so but I do think its silly, its not like its a wedding, I think for a christening its a bit much.

I think adults should be able ot sit themselves and their children.

We didn't and we had about 50 people as well. It worked out fine. However, I don't see any reason NOT to if you think it will keep the peace.

We had 120 people and we didn't do one, everyone sat where ever they wanted to.

I do not think it is silly because...

even if it is less amount of people the people that know each other tend to sit together. They sit at the table on a first come first serve basis.

When we were at a Christening all the tables filled up of people that knew each other and then other people wanted to add chairs to certain tables and other tables were half filled.

If there was a seating arrangement you could work it out so that at least a few people knew each other at each table.

This process works for smaller showers, christening, birthday parties, etc. I don't think it dictates the formality of an affair. It just saves the headache of the poor people trying to add chairs/tables just so they could sit next to someone they actually know (especially if they show up a little late and there are no "good" seats left).

Re: Do you think a seating arrangement is silly for Christening?

dawnie - you said it perfectly!

I LOVE seating arrangements.

a few times older family members sat where immediate family/Godparents were supposed to sit, and we were mortified to say anything (luckily someone else did Chat Icon and it was no big deal).

but it just saves many awkward moments. many times family and friends THANKED Me for the seating arrangements.

it just makes life easier.

Ive had seating arrangements for as little as 60 people.

also wanted to add, if the place is roomy, ask for an extra table for the kids where you can have coloring books and fun stuff forthem to do AFTER they eat with their parents.

this is always a hit. and ask some of the teens in the family to supervise

Re: Do you think a seating arrangement is silly for Christening?

I had about 120 ppl at DD's christening party and no seating arrangements. There were no problems with seating.

I have never been to a party where I was given a seating arrangement unless it was a wedding.

Re: Do you think a seating arrangement is silly for Christening?

i think they are a good idea. I hate oging to christenings and trying to find a table that has enough room ofr my little group. we were at a christning for my cousin a couple of weeks ago and my whole immediate family got stuck furthest away from the main table (my grandmother, uncles etc.)
