the MIL and grandparents if they live out of state (10 hour flight even)?knowing they can't come.

I was going to say its a nice gesture but my MIL is in Poland (also 9 hr flight & I know she wont come) So then I dont know.... I wonder if my mom sent invites when I had my bridal shower.

i would send it and say that we know you can't come - but thought you would appreciate an invitation...(some people are sentimental and would KEEP it)...

Yes. For courtesy and so they can send a gift or card if they like. And you never know, they may want to come to surprise you!

Absolutely! I have lots of family out of state and my mom is sending all of them invitations. They always did the same for us. We don't want people to be hurt and you never know who will come.

I definitely would b/c it is a MIL and grandparents - for more distant relatives probably not unless they sent you invites to their showers or their children's showers. We did send one to my aunt b.c my mom knew she would be upset if we did not send one (even though she lives in TX).
While you might not think they will come they are immediate family and they will probably at least want to send a gift, you also never know if they will hop a plane to come out if it is important to them.

Yes. I did this for my wedding. I had relatives that I knew couldn't come, but would have been very sad not to get an invitation.

ITA! Send them an invite! Some people also just like to be included and I am sure your MIL would LOVE a copy of invitation. Do you think your MIL may surprise you and show up? Not sure how far her travel is..
We sent a few invites to family I had't seen but DID speak to in years..and wouldn't you know the first few packages from BRU were from them....and they sent such nice presents too!....NIce to know family never forgets you no matter howfar the distance!

But.....
My MIL and SILs etc live in Ireland. They actually did not get invited to my bridal shower and probably will not get invited to my baby shower. I would LOVE for them to come, but I know they can't first of all and secondly, they dont really have showers over there so I didn't want to seem like I was looking for gifts.
