do you have to go to hopsital for miscarriage? ****UPDATE - with questions****

I am 4 1/2 weeks and just started spotting and getting slight cramps here and there.

I called my dr office and they said if i get heavy bleeding and painful cramps to go to the ER..... i know there is nothing they can do to stop it so is it really necessary to go? Cant i just let things happen naturally at home and then go to my dr to get checked out?

I have my DS at home and we havent told anyone so i just dont want to have to deal with going to the er if we dont have to.

Has anyone had an early miscarriage? Is it not painful since its early?

TIA

*****UPDATE****

the spotting turned into bleeding - it was never heavy and the cramping stopped so i didnt go to e/r .....its been period-like bleeding - heavier the first 2 days and now lighter.

My OB office wants me to come in a week. They didnt say what they would be doing so im just wondering what tests/exams i should make sure they do....

Do you need a sono to determine if everything is clear?

Should they do bloodwork to check my levels? Should they have done bloodwork the day this started to see if anything was off that might have been a contributing factor (progesterone, thyroid, etc)?

Anything else i should ask the dr?

Also if you saw an RE after you had 1st m/c - did they do any tests/bloodwork afterwards or only if it was multiple m/c?

Thanks

If you fill up a pad in less than an hour you should go to the hospital. But at 4 1/2 weeks its unlikely there will be any significant bleeding... it will be more like getting your period.

I did not. I MC'd over a weekend and just had to wait it out and go for bloodwork to determine my levels.

I had a similar thing happen to me last year over christmas and figured that the hospital cannot do anything to stop it from happening. i just went to the doctors office after the holiday to confirm what i knew was happening.

At 4 1/2 weeks spotting and light cramping is actually normal in a pregnancy. If you do miscarry you are early enough that it will prob just feel like a period. The baby hasnt really started developing yet. i was 11 weeks and I miscarried at home and was fine. It's case by case but at this stage I wouldn't start worrying yet. Hopefully for your same this is just implantation spotting and everything goes smoothly!! It's hard in the beginning because every little thing makes you worry.

Your OB will probably just do bloodwork. The first time I miscarried at a little over 5 weeks and they did a sono too and of course saw nothing. The second time I was only 4.5 weeks so they didn't bother with the sono.

I didn't start seeing an RE til after the second, and we just started with him, but they did bloodwork and a sono at my first appt. Then I went back and did CD3 bloodwork.

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to my doctor a month after my mc and they did bloodwork to make sure my levels were back down to zero. Chat Icon

Sorry for your loss

When I mc it was early like that and I started spotting and then heavy bleeding. When I went to the ob they did a sonogram just to check. No blood work. I was blessed to become pregnant just 2 months later with my DS.
