Do you feel needing to lose about 40lbs would stop you from conceiving?

I have a friend who tried for two years and nothing was wrong with her,the dr told her to lose 40lbs and try that almost as soon as she lost the weight she got her bfp. I know I need to lose about 30lbs, which today I start my diet in a very serious way, but I dont know if I believe that only being 30-40 lbs overweight would stop you from getting pregnant if everything in your tests say your ok, What do you think?

It could have an effect on conceiving especially if you are insulin dependent. Losing weight can reserse the insulin dependency making conceiving much more likely. Without a bunch of blood tests, it may be hard to diagnose.

I needed to lose weight (still do Chat Icon ) and I went on Weight Watchers (I had been TTC for 14 months) and as soon as I lost 10 pounds I got pregnant. I don't know if it was considence or not. It also helps to get the extra weight off before pregnancy because it lowers your chance of having Gestational Diabetes while pregnant. My Dr told me I need to lose weight before getting pregnant again. If not, I will most likely have gestational diabetes again.

I dont know about it helping you to conceive, but i know it is not safe to be over weight when you r pg. My freind was trying to loose weight but got pg, the doctor told her she can only gain 20lbs during the pregnancy or i will put both of thme at risk

that's pretty interesting...i need to lose about 20-30 lbs that I gained since getting married. I wonder if after I lose all of it, I'd get my bfp! That would be ideal anyway, since I'd like to get my weight down before gaining pregnancy weight.

yes apparantly it does have an effect on PG. My doctor told me to loose 20lbs too. I read somewhere that being overwieght increases your estrogen and that interferes with getting pregnant. So we'll see I am almost there with losing 20 lbs and lost 2 pant sizes so lets see if it works and if that is the only thing preventing me, I still havent done the HSG and DH hasnt done his SA. I was away last week so now its time to get serious and make the appt.

My friend's SIL was seriously overweight (probably about 75 lbs overweight) and got pregnant. But it was a complicated pregnancy, the baby was premature and still has a lot of health issues.

I am ttc, and need to lose about 30-40 lbs that I have gained since my wedding. Chat Icon I am finally getting on track with eating; my next step is to get exercising regularly.

I've been so on the fence (and disgusted with myself to be honest) because I am 34 already. I know the ideal would be to wait till I lose at least 20 pounds but then is it that much better because 35 is right around the corner? Chat Icon

I also worry about the pregnancy weight and gestational diabetes, and of course, the health of the baby.

This is key ! So many women who don't ovulate on their own, .....need to lose only 10% of their body mass, and so many times they see a tremendous difference !!!!! They start to Ovulate and bam pregnancy occurs.

IF a person is too thin, they also may not be ovulating.

All this relates to the storage of estrogen. Estrogen is stored in the fat tissue....and the more fat tissue , the more chance of estrogen dominance. If there is limited amounts of fat tissue,...then estrogen can be too low to allow ovulation to occur.

However, if you are insulin resistant....many times the doctor will prescribe metformin. That drug needs to be taken in pregnancy as well because, ....it will keep the insulin regulated.

One of the best tests you could take,...is the IGTT (insulin glucose tolerance test) Most doctors only require a glucose test....at an annual physical. However, some women and men have normal glucose levels but turn out to be insulin resistant. One big clue to get that test done is if you aren't ovulating on your own or having trouble losing weight.
