Do invitations HAVE to match the party theme?

Do invitations HAVE to match the party theme?
I'm still debating btwn 2 possible themes for my son's 1st birthday but i need to order invites asap.
So since i'm undecided would it look bad if i order an invite that is somewhat generic or should i just decide on a theme and order a matching invitation?
I know, i'm crazy but what do you think?

You can order a generic invite. As long as its cute, everyone will love it. I don't think they are going to be taking notes and comparing to your paper plates.

I did a little prince theme invite and the party was a rubber duck theme. I don't think they need to match
