Disney the week of Memorial Day
So the school hasn't used their two allotted snow days this year, so they will tack them onto Memorial Day, provided we don't use them. We are thinking of taking a trip down since the airfares are reasonable right now. Has anyone been that week? Is it crazy mobbed? I'm sure Memorial Day itself probably is, but not sure of the rest of the week.

It's busy since some schools are already out and it's also Gay Days.

I've gone the weeks before memorial day and as memorial day approaches it gets more and more crowded. Most schools down south are already out for the summer.

According to the crowd calendar the crowds drop by Wednesday. I've been there the weekend after Memorial Day and I was there for Gay Days. it CAN be crowded but if you avoid the gay days park and adhere to rope drop and fast pass, you should be ok!

That day is a 6 out of 10. Not horrible but will be somewhat crowded. School breaks and summer range in the 8-10 range so a 6 isn't horrible.

That is basically a 9 out of 10 for the MK. Keep in mind it is Star Wars weekend at HS - so people will hit MK to avoid those crowds too.
June isn't necessarily better most of the summer crowds run 8-10s on the scale.
Gay days - is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It is a huge gay and lesbian gathering in the parks and attracts around 150K+ participants. I think 2012 runs May 29th- June 4th. They pretty much take over the parks it sounds like from reviews that I have read. I have never gone then so I can't personally comment. But anytime there are large groups of any kind it can be a pain.

i don't know that I would go on that weekend because it would be crowded, but if the deals are good, then i might take a chance, especially if the kids had never been there

I've been to Gay Days. They post on their site (it's not a Disney sponsored event) which park they'll be in on which date, so avoid that park if you can.
I've been there for an early June weekend which was SWW and Gay Days and SWW is always going to be crowded, but other than the day I ended up at EPCOT on the same day as Gay Days, it really wasn't so bad. It's better than the summer. Not AS hot, and not AS crowded. That week is going to be better than any week in July or early August. As of 5/30, The crowd calendar is all 6's and 7's.
It's harder, but if you know what you're doing, it's fine. I recently walked on about 12 rides on a level 9.3 day at Magic Kingdom, and that was with stopping for character meet and greets, and breakfast, and I left by 1:00.
If you have the discipline to be there before opening and get all of the E-ticket rides out of the way, then you'll be golden.,

I should have clarified, we would be traveling to FL on the day before Memorial Day and staying the entire week. Not necessarily going to any parks the day before Memorial Day (or even Memorial day itself). We would likely be staying at a resort not on property, so would use those as pool days, etc.
But if Gay Days are that entire week we will likely skip it. Our first trip was during gay days, and while it was fine that there were droves of gay people (have gay friends!), it was terribly crowded, and a lot of the groups were very obnoxious. Which of course you get from ANY group of people before people get twisted, I think it's just amped up from drinking, partying, etc. at the world. Maybe we'll just do Sea World, Discovery Cove, US, etc. instead!!

6/1 - DHS
6/2 - magic kingdom - this is the big event, I would avoid this one at all costs

I always suggest avoiding any groups - there are also the brazilian tourist teens, the cheerleaders groups, little league etc. I think anytime that they are groups at the park that you are aware of it is better to avoid them as they have the capacity to be as I agree with what you said - amped up, cutting lines, excess partying, under chaperoning etc. Doesn't seem to matter the group - just any large influx of one group tends to throw off all touring. I would still go if you have it planned but as Jennifer posted just avoid the parks that the groups are at those particular days.
