Re: Did your induction lead to a c-section

yes, but I was induced due to a medical condition with NO dialation at all and was still only a fingertip dialated after 6 hours on pitocin. My dd was not ready to come out, they STILL needed to use a vacuum to get her out even with a csection Chat Icon

overall, I had a GREAT experience and am doing a scheduled c section this time around

Re: Did your induction lead to a c-section

No, I was able to deliver vaginally. I also had a very quick labor.

I went in to be induced due to my GD at 39 weeks. I was not dialated, no contractions, nothing. After the cervidil was in from 10pm -7am I was 2cm dialated. By 9am I was 4cm, by noon 7cm, and by 12:45, 10cm and ready to push. I started pushing at 1:20pm, and DD was born at 1:58pm.

Yes, DD did not do well on the pitocin, her variable heart rate was flat. They did a c-section and had her out in less than 15 minutes.

No. I got Pitocin at 6 am and gave birth vaginally at 6:45 p.m. the same day.

Re: Did your induction lead to a c-section

People who were induced, are you able to sleep while on Cervadil, or are the contractions too painful? What about the Pitocin--is it painful the entire time, or just towards the end when the contractions get closer?

I didn't need a c-section, but it took From Sun night until Tuesday evening to give birth. I had a very good experience.

I went in on Sunday evening to get the cervadil. They also gave me a sleeping pill and I was able to get some rest.

They started pitocin the next day and while on pitocin I could relax, but not sleep. I was on it from 9 am-7 pm and they shut it off. I slept that night.

The next day they started up the pitocin again. It was okay until they broke my water-once that happened it was very painful until I got the epidural and then it was fine.

They gave me the cervadil overnight and I was fine in the beginning, but after 4 hours the contractions started to get a little painful. The night nurse gave me some stadol (sp??) through IV and I was able to sleep.

Two hours after they started the Pitocin and I was dialated to 3 cm they gave me my epi. The contractions weren't too bad. They came more frequently when they broke my water, but since I had already had my epi I didn't feel anything.

Re: Did your induction lead to a c-section

I was induced due to High BP. My doc uses cytotech. I got the dose 1 at 10p, didn't know I was having consistent contractions so they weren't even going to give me dose 2. They ended up giving me dose 2 at 3:30a (since I wasn't feeling contrzctions), water broke at 4a,got medication in my IV b/c I asked for pain relief, and fell asleep for a short time. Got epi at 6:30a at 4cm. Never needed pitocin (only a small dose about 30 minutes before DS was born b/c contractions slowed down). DS was born at 2:15p (16 hours after the first dose of cytotech).

Obviously I have nothing to compare it to but I don't feel like the contractions were any worse than if I had gone into labor naturally. They felt like the worst period cramps of my life.

they gave me an ambien to sleep (I needed another one cause the 1st did not work)

when they started the pitocin, the contractions were bearable until they turned up the pitocin Chat Icon I needed the epi then

They gave me a sleeping pill after inserting the cervidil. I got about 2 hours of sleep and that was it. I was wide awake from 1am until 9pm the next night. I had very, very mild cramping/contractions on the cervidil.

Pitocin was another story. At 8:15 am they broke my water and started the pitocin, within 10 minutes my contractions were pretty painful and about a minute and a half apart. By 9:15 I had the epidural. My labor progressed quickly though. I went from not being dialated at all at 10pm when they started to cervidil, to 2cm by 7am when they removed it. I was already 4cm when I got the epi, and DD was born less than 4 hours later. I went from 7cm to 10cm in less than an hour.

I think I may be the odd one out here, but I got the Cervadil around 8 PM and within a half hour I was contracting. VERY noticeably contracting. I went the two hours and they let me eat something around 10 PM and they had to give me something to help me sleep, which didn't work. Then they gave me something for the pain, which worked a little I sleep for a few hours but then was back up again in pain. They gave me another shot of whatever pain medication it was and it might as well have been Kool Aid for all I knew, it didn't work.

By the morning time, around 9 AM they started the pitocin but by 11 I was getting the epidural.

They actually had taken me off the pitocin at one point to monitor DD and me, I don't know exactly when, they didn't tell me. Once I had the epi, I was able to sleep and then a flurry of action started happening. They put me on oxygen. Then a little while later the doctor came in to check how dilated I was and I was 3 cm. She broke my water but told me that she needed to put a probe on the baby to monitor her...that's when I knew something was up. A little while later, the doctor came back and told me they needed to do a section, DD wasn't handling the pitocin well.

Induced, no c-section. 12 hours of labor. It was fine. Chat Icon

ETA: No, I did not sleep. I had the epi, but was still in too much pain to sleep. They never offered me sleeping pills and I didn't think to ask. They just kept telling me to try and get some sleep so I would have the energy to push!

Re: Did your induction lead to a c-section

Nope. I was induced 6 days past my due date. Everything went pretty smoothly and I had avaginal delivery. But I did have help. The cord was wrapped around DS's neck so after a certainpoint, I just couldn't puch him any further. They had to help me with the vaccuum extractor because at that point he was too far down for a csection.

Cervadil is to soften your cervix, it doesn't *really* cause you to contract (of course you can be though)

I could not sleep at all for the early part of my labor, but it was not due to the cervadil. It was inserted at midnight and I was hooked up to so many wires and machines (I had high BP) that I was miserable and couldn't even move at all except to pee.

I was given demoral after my pitcoin and I slept for my entire labor.

To answer the OP's question, no, I had a vaginal birth after being induced
