Did you go to your home inspection as a buyer?
I am debating going, because I am not sure I will have someone to watch DS. Did you go, or just rely on the inspector to do his job? I am using someone I trust who came highly recommended.

i would recommend going....
The inspector will point specific things out to you that may not be so clear/understandable if you just read the report.

Yup DH and I both showed up about an hour into it (lasted 3 hours total). Our REA was there the whole time.

I am not so worried about this since I am an engineer myself. I am confident I'll be able to understand anything in the report.
I think I am a bit cynical, since I know there is only so much they are going to see anyway.

I would definitely go as you may have questions or see something that he/she may not. I think it is very valable to be there. I would take your DS with you to the inspection. Is neither you or your SO going to be at the inspection?

I don't own a home, but did have a home inspected (after what engineer found, we pulled out)- while I didn't go, my dad went... he knows about stuff, so he made sure the inspector really inspected.

absolutely and I brought DD, I wanted to see and hear what the inspectors had to say on site.
edited to say- needless to say I am glad I was there- didnt purchase the home and try to go on a rainy day if possible- thank god it was raining on our inspection day- leaks AND drainage was terrible- wouldnt have know if not raining b/c the leaks limited themselves from being visible on the ceiling!

I went and was so glad I did. When I got the actual report, it was so much easier to understand what he was telling me having seen it all.

I went. I wanted to see what, if anything, was wrong and I wanted him to explain things to me.... like if certain things were fixable or not. I would definately have either you or your DH go.

I would try to go, our inspector mentioned a couple of things that didn't really pertain to the report itself, but just points about how the house was built or things that weren't a problem now but we should keep an eye on because over the course of 10 years they might need attention.
