Did you/Are you going to tip your newborn photographer?
I hired someone who runs the business on her own so it's all profit for her. Do I tip or not tip? Thanks!

I believe the general rule is that when you are working with the owner of a company, you do not tip, unless there are assistants or whatever.

Exactly. So the answer is no the first time and no for any time in the future. 
If you like their work, you give them referals.
