Did anyone see a genetic counselor prior to TTC?

Did anyone see a genetic counselor prior to TTC?
We are starting to TTC, but it was suggested that we see a genetic counselor prior. We dont have any family history of prior medical problems, but I guess these tests can tell you if you are the carrier or anything>?

No, we didn't have any reason to - boththe youngest of 6 and all our brothers & sisters have had healthy children, no problems.
I did have an immunological work up tho because my clinic did this as a matter of routine.
What is your ethnic background?

Unless there is a genetic disease running in your family or you/SO is from a particular genetic background, you usually don't.

who suggested it?? my dh and i did, but that was because i knew that i was a carrier of a genetic blood disorder. thank goodness we did, because it turned out that dh was a carrier of another genetic blood disorder and combined the two could have been disastrious.
we went to schneider's children's hospital. if you need any info please let me know.

No, we didn't. We had no reason too, there are no genetic disorders that run in our families.

we are young and pretty much have healthy families so honestly we didn't see the need/risk going into it. the only birth defects in our families are port wine stains and my daughter had a displaced hip at birth from being too small. both things we have to wait until the birth to see anyway.
plus, i'm a little old fashioned.
