Did anyone hire a cleaning service to clean their house
before they moved in??
I think i'd love the whole thing steam cleaned and HVAC'd before I get in there....

We didn't, but the previous owners were still packing and moving their stuff out of the house the day we closed and they hired someone to come in and clean while we were at the closing.
ETA: If they hadn't done it, I would have. As it was I still scrubed the toilets and sinks etc, the night we were in the house

We didn't. We were ripping out most of the carpet, re-doing the kitchen and repainting the whole house anyway.
We cleaned everything else ourselves like the bathrooms (scrubbed for days)! We had our apartment for a few weeks after we closed so we continued to live there while we cleaned and put in the new floors.

Got lucky with that, the Sellers actually had a crew come in the day of the closing for us.
If they did not, I would have probably still did it, at least the first intial cleaning.

We hired a company to do the upstairs when our former tenant abandoned the apartment and left it completely discusting.
Well worth it!
I would hire one at a new place for carpets/floors if previous owners did not do it.
It's easier than doing it yourself and when it's empty.

Our sellers did that as a gift for us. Then we had the floors done and did some other work and had it done again before we moved in. I recommend it!

I wish I had. My mom suggested that we should, but I was being all cheap and thought I would do it myself, the place looked fairly clean, it would be easy.
When I got in, it appeared the kitchen and bathroom had not ever been cleaned in the 3 years the seller lived here. It took hours to clean.
If you can afford it, do it.

I had the carpets steam cleaned but cleaned the rest of the place ourselves.
We were so gung-ho about the first house thing that we didn't mind at all.
However, the next house? Gettin that cleaning crew and painting crew IN there.

The previous owners actually had someone come in before we moved in and thought that was very nice of them even though we told them they didn't need to do that. They were clean people as it was.

My sister and I cleaned everything. The house was immaculate so it wasn't too bad.
I did, however, have all the carpets steam cleaned. We have wall to wall carpet throughout the entire house. It skeeved me out to think that the former owners walked around barefoot and now I would too
