Daycare Teachers/Assistant Gifts...is this enough?

This is my first holiday with daycare. I don't know what the normal gift is. For the teachers that the kids had for summer, I got Vera Bradley ID zip change purses and $10 gift cards to Kohls. For their current teachers, I was going to give $50 AMEX cards to the teachers and $25 AMEX cards to the assistants. Should I give the assistant teachers a $50 AMEX card instead. What is the norm?

I just picked up some items from L'Occitane such as hand creams, lip balms, shower gels, lotions, soaps, etc. and they wrapped it up for me in beautiful little packages. I did big packages for DS's teacher and the assistant and smaller ones for the two teachers in the other room, and...I got a nice gift box for the director (I love herChat Icon )

We're giving the teachers $25 gift cards and the teacher's assistant a $15 gift card (she's only been there 6 weeks)

Wow I feel cheap now. Genevieve has one main teacher, 2 aides and of course the director. Also Dance teacher and her assistant. I am getting them ALL a $10 gift card to Starbucks (or maybe something different) and a cute candle or something. I simply cant afford anything else.

I have 2 kids in the same room.

They've been at this center since June 09.

DH was out of work for 4 months and just got hired at a job that is nearly entirely commission= we are living off my salary and subsidizing vital necessities with savings. WE are not giving each other anything this year so we can give a gift to the daycare teachers.

JMO, but these teachers are with our kids upwards (and sometimes more) than 40 hours per week. They change their diapers, get them to eat their vegetables, listen to many a meltdown, etc. Give what you can afford but please remember the hours and energy they put into their jobs taking care of our precious children. They don't make nearly the salary/benefits of other service providers who get holiday tips.

I always give cash and a small box of Godiva or lotion.

Because they've been there half the year:
Two head teachers... $100 each ($50. each kid)

Two assistant teachers... $50 each ($25 each kid)

i am more willing to cut back on everyone else but my daycare people just b/c they are with my DC all week/every day. i can't think of a more important place to show my utter appreciation. that's JMO too. i use a small daycare where there are 3 teachers all day. so 100 each for them and a 50 dollar g.c. to Panera to buy them lunch.

Ditto. Well, mostly ditto LOL

My son is in preschool, but it's the same deal: a teacher and an assistant. I give giftcards. The same amount to the teacher and the assistant. They both work their you-know-whats off for my kid, regardless of their title.

ETA that no one should feel cheap giving what they can afford. Remember it's the thought that counts! Some of the BEST gifts I have received have been heartfelt notes of thanks from parents.

My mom once got a McD's Happy Meal ornament from a kid who she knew couldn't afford even that. 20 years later it still hangs on her tree because of the sentimental value and the love the gift was given with.

ITA with both.
If I could afford more I would. I am giving $100 each teacher (3 total) and $50 keurig giftcard for main teacher and $10 dd gift card for other two.

This year I am doing Tastefully Simple gifts. A few different items that go together (asiago crackers and brushetta cheeseballs, for example) with a GC or similar.

plenty.... i went to the estee lauder sale... ended up getting each of the 4 teachers a $10 gift... put some chocolates with it in a tin.... picking up donuts for them that morning... a new teacher just started- her and the director are getting a $3 chocolate caramels ghiradelli.... total will end up being within $75

I WISH i could get them $50 gifts, but times are tight and to me $300 is alot ...yes i love the teachers, i spend time talking with them, but in reality the $14,000 a year we are paying is a huge chunk of my salary so i have to limit myself.

Re: Daycare Teachers/Assistant Gifts...is this enough?

I give the head teacher of the classroom a $50 AMEX card and one of the assistant teachers who also prepares lunch everyday. I give the other assistants $25 AMEX cards. I give the pre-K teachers a very small gift just to show appreciation... they combine rooms in the mornings and afternoons for an hour so they do care for my son too. This year I got them the very smallest, 4 chocolate box of Godiva. Last year, I got a Lenox candle holder that I got on sale at Macy's for about $6.00 each. In prior years, I also gave all the teachers an ornament with their gift card, but it is just so much money already... he has so many teachers... I'm just giving the gift card from now on.

I usually also give the director and secretary the small gift like the pre-k teachers. This year, the director filled in for a few months as the head teacher, so I'm giving her a $25 gift card instead of the small Godiva as I normally would have.

I bought the 2 main teachers vera bradley pocketbooks... (about $50 each)

And the floaters-$5 gift cards to dunkin donuts...

I baked them all cookies from scratch (that alone cost over $50Chat Icon )

I appreciate them and all they do for my kids...I dont always have the extra money...this year I did, and made sure I shared that extra with themChat Icon

We got the main person a $50 gc and will probably spend $25 on the assistant (she's been there since summer).

She'll also get "vacation" pay of sorts, since DD will only be going 2 days next week, but we'll pay for the whole week.

Re: Daycare Teachers/Assistant Gifts...is this enough?

You should do what is in your budget. It's suppose to be a nice token gift to say thank you. If that means you can spend $10 that's fine. If you can spend $100 that's fine too. I can remember as a kid my Nana baking cookies for me to give teachers because we didn't have money. It's the gesture behind it. Would the teachers all love $100 gc from each kid? Sure. But not every family can afford it.

Your gift amount sounds perfect to me but again, do what you can afford to do. Don't overdo it because you feel like anything else is cheap. I'm sure they will be very appreciate of whatever you give.

For the head teacher and assistant (each I spent $50):
$25 Amex card
Magazine Subscription Gift (can chose from 40)
Scarf

Flaoters (I consider them assistants because they are pretty consistent)
$25 Amex card
Scarf

Director & Staff
Magazine Subscription Gift (can chose from 40)
