Day Trips

So, working in schools, my wife and I have been off all summer and have just been sitting on the beach here in LB. Yes, yes, I know it's a tough life.Chat Icon

Anyway, that awful month of September is coming around. Does anyone have any ideas of some inexpensive day trips? We love doing the wineries but I'm looking for some other ideas. Thanks!

We like to go to harbor town, like Oyster Bay, Huntington, Northport. We spent today fishing in OB-it was beautiful. There are attractions around like the Japanese Strolling Gardens in Glen Cove. Atlantis Marine world is fun! Go canoeing or kayaking in Smithtown (Nissacuogue...ohh, bad spelling, I'm sorry) but staying where you are is a pretty good thing, too!

Re: Day Trips

I would head to New Hope/Lambertville. It's the NJ/PA border. From LI, it's probably about 1 hour 45 mins.. It's two cute towns right next to each other with a bunch of cute shops.

There is also always Philly-- about 2.5 hours from LI.

Then when all else fails- go shopping at Woodbury Common.

Re: Day Trips

Go to the City. There is so much to do!

Pack a lunch and rent a row boat in Central Park...

Go to the Museam of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium...

Go to the Statue of Liberty...

Get tickets for one of those double-decker tour buses and see how tourists see New York...

Take in a Matinee on Broadway...

Get on the Circle Line and ride around Manhattan...

I love the city! Too bad we almost never go. DH works in NYC and it is the last place he wants to go on the weekend.

I was going to suggest philly and the commons too!! dh and i always take day trips to philly! We have a set schedule:

1) Drive straight to Pats and meet my friend for lunch...sometimes dh's friends come too!
2) Go shopping on Sixth Street and get Dairy Queen
3) Move over to the other shopping street with Puma
4) Stop by my lifelong friends business for a surprise visit!!
5) Drive down south to Chickie & Pete's for dinner
6) Time to go home!!!

dh says sometimeswe rotate 1 & 5

Re: Day Trips

My DH & I just recently went & spent the afternoon at Old Westbury Gardens. Then had dinner out in Glen Cove by the Marina. We also love going to museums, lighthouses, fishing

I def agree with the city!

If you like to shop, Woodbury Commons is a fun day trip.

DH & I took a day trip just south of the Catskills to go apple picking last fall - it was gorgeous & fun.

If you like rides, Great Adventure.

Montauk (you can go deep sea fishing or just walk around)
