Curtain length question re: rod height

Has anyone hung a curtain rod much higher than the top of the window? If so, do you have any pics? I bought some curtains for our BR that are 90 inches in length and I could easily hem them to my usual 84 inches but I think I've seen pics of curtains being hung higher. I have average height ceilings (8 feet) so I dont know how they'd look 6 inches higher than usual.

Anyone done this or have any pics to share?

You can hang them higher to make the window seem bigger. You can also hang them at the regular height and then let the curtains puddle on the floor. Check out BHG.com - they have tons of window treatment examples.

I think there's a good deal of play on how high you hang the rod relative to the ceiling, as long as all curtain rods in a room are at the same height....

the big thing is that the curtains should just barely be touching the floor.... my mom thought they should be 10 inches higher when she installed hers years ago, and for years, it looked like there was a flood and the bottoms were chopped off

(we FINALLY fixed the problem a couple years ago )
