Curious, has anyone ever used the CDC schedule to fight shots?

I know that sounds odd but I do actually keep AJ on schedule (barring illnesses of course).

I'm checking her shot record to the CDC Schedule. Right now she's 15mo..

Those in 'yellow' include:
HepB (6m-18m)
Dtap (12m-15m)
Hib (12m-18m)
PCV (12m-18m)
IPV (6m-18m)
MMR (12m-18m)
Varicella (12m-18m)
HepA (12m-23m)

Of those above the only ones shes 'missing' are DTap, Hib, PCV and im not sure about the second dose of HepA.

So what I want to purpose to my pedi is
Give her the Hib & PCV ONLY this time around at 15m (which will most likely be 16m as they are booked solid).

Then at 18m give her the DTap

Anyone ever use this as an explanation for a pedi and 'stretching out' shots?

I am wholeheartedly AGAINST more than two shots at any one sitting at a doctor. Just who I am. I am not against vaccinations in principal just against the # of meds they push into our child system.

We've done no more than 2 shots at a time since DS was born, and his pediatrician is fine with it.

At this point, I think we just need one more HIB (she was out of this for awhile due to shortages), Hep A, and Chicken Pox. And a swine flu booster. So I think the next visit he's getting swine flu and HIB, and we'll probably go back for Chicken Pox and Hep A at another point, in a month or two.

What do you mean? You are the parent. Just tell them what you want. If your Dr does not support what you decide for YOUR child, then switch DrsChat Icon

Ha! I wish

I called around to at least a dozen doctors. There is only ONE doctor in ALL of greater San Antonio Metro that allows 'modified' shot schedules. Even tho I'm not actually delaying just stretching. Most/if not all places here will 'fire' you as a patient. So far I've had to rationalize my shot schedule once and was given a 'pass' on the Chicken Pox under strict orders that it was a one time deal if I missed her appt. That they feel parents 'forget' or get 'busy' and children miss the outstanding shots thereby putting the children at higher risk.

Well, there's one way to find out, ask! I don't really see that as a big deal and you're not trying to NOT get the shots, you just don't want more than 2, which I see as being reasonable. If they give you a hard time, let them give her the first two, then grab her a runChat Icon

We have been going to Dr. Lantry since the birth of our child in 2008. He is a wonderful doctor and his office policies really make the office experience pleasant, and he always has enough time to answer my questions. The lateness policy is a two-way street; if we as patients respect his time, he in turn respects ours by giving us as much time as we need with him. Dr. Lantry is very down to earth, and is great at "talking me down" when I am being a nervous mother, and helps with real life problems in addition to just being a doctor. He returns calls in a timely manner. Lastly, he is very flexible on vaccine schedules. While he does support most of the AAP recommendations, he also respects parents' wishes to delay or deny certain vaccinations, and while he encourages vaccination, he does not condescend to parents who choose to space them out or drop some. I really appreciate that about him.

Re: Curious, has anyone ever used the CDC schedule to fight shots?

well they 'bought' it.

They fussed for a lil bit but I proved that they had themselves delayed her shots with the same logic. By not giving her the Hib or PCV at 12m per the CDC but instead waiting for the 15m.

Since the CDC allows between 12m-15m for these shots there was no reason i couldnt hold off the DTap for 18m since it is 15m-18m which is allowable by their own admission to the same logic.

She stumbled for a second said she didnt know the CDC requirements. Then she hestitated (prolly pulled it up) and said she would have to get the doctor's approval but yes she agreed with me.

Her second dose of HepA is due at 18m so we'll give her the DTap then too.

Then I'm done with this headache until 4yrs! Chat Icon
