Creating bad habits..

Are there habits that you started with your DC that you wish you never did?

For example, we have always swaddled DD, she is 12 1/2 weeks old. Now she will NOT go to sleep at night w/o the swaddle. I fear she will need it until she is 1! Chat Icon

What about everyone else, is there something you started that you wish you never did?

And how do you break them of the habit???

Honestly, your DC is too young to worry about habits just yet, if it works, keep doing it!!

Either they outgrow it, or you break it! DS still takes a pacifer (he is 18 months) but I have no intention of breaking the habit til he done teething.

Re: Creating bad habits..

At 12 months I am only starting to be concerned with some habits. DS uses his paci a lot, but I have noticed that when it is out of sight, it's out of mind. The other habit that concerns me is that we let him take toys into the crib and he often plays until he falls asleep. We tried to swaddle him a lot and he never liked having his arms in, then when he was moving more, we got rid of the blanket. It was not an issue.

IA with Kate. At 3 months your LO is too young to evelop bad habits. BELIEVE me, the swaddle habit will resolve itself.

At that age, WHATEVER provides them with comfort will help get them on a schedule- so go with it.....

I wish I had never warmed her milk.

Now she spits it out if it's cold! Chat Icon

We always let Chelsea fall asleep in her bouncer with a bottle. Now that is basically the only way she goes to sleep at night Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is how I felt as well. It was really a struggle to get him to take his milk cold.

Re: Creating bad habits..

Kayla would only sleep in a boppy pillow...we have one with a strap so she won't slip down. We loved it at first because she has been sleeping through the night in this since 6 weeks. Now she is 6 months and won't sleep with out it and she is growing out of it. We keep trying to put her down with out it at night and she wakes up like 3 hours later and won't go back to sleep. I know its going to be hard but eventually we are going to have to suck up a few sleepless nights and break the habit.

same here...

I guess maybe the pacifier. He only used it for naps and bedtime and not even allt he time and I should have taken it away when he started leaning on it more...now I have to desire to battle for it..so I just allow it and will forquite a while Im sure.
