im not on the home board often - but was wondering about the monthly cost of gas heat. we are looking ar a house that has a brand new gas heating system installed... and im wondering what the monthly cost will be - right now we pay 160 a month for oil... do you think it will be around the same?

Re: cost of gas heat?

It should be cheaper b/c gas is more affordable than oil.

Yes! The homeowner was willing to share this information - we just had to ask.

You can also call the utility companies to find out what the owners were paying. They can't give you an exact figure but then can tell you a round about figure (this is what we did)Chat Icon

Agreed. Big difference. And out gas also runs our stove, dishwahser, washer/dryer and our BBQ.

I have the same question.

We are intrested in a 3000 square foot hourse at Eastern Long Island.

2 Zones, Force Air heat.

It's a new construction, so we can not ask the previous owner how much is the gas heating cost during the winter time.

Any idea?

Thanks!

Yes, call the utility company and ask for comparables in the area for the home. They should be able to provide you with some info. You may have to gather some addresses for them to give you some numbers.

We have a 2600 square ft home...2 zones (my parents live downstairs, so therefore both zones are always on) we have baseboard heating not forced air.

Our bills during the winter months, for gas heating, hot water heater and dryer are no higher than $300 a month. We keep the heat no higher than 69 degrees on both levels....most of time its actually lower. and $300 a month is our hightest bill....

I hope that gives you an idea.

Re: cost of gas heat?

I don't think gas costs less than oil per unit, but it does end up being cheaper b/c gas is more efficient.

we live in an 800 sq ft apt and pay $50 a month to Keyspan (balanced billing). we keep the temp at 67 in the winter. every now and then it goes up to 68, but no higher!
