Columbus Day Weekend Party?
I would not throw a party on say Memorial day, the 4th or Labor day weekend (unless, of course, the party is FOR that holiday), but is it taboo to throw a party (unrelated to the holiday) on Columbus Day weekend?

Re: Columbus Day Weekend Party?
We had our wedding (and I've been to several others) during Columbus Day weekend.
Actually, we had several guests compliment us on the date (we actually didn't plan it to be that date purposely), because they had the extra time off and made a long weekend out of it.
(We got married Upstate).

I don't think it's taboo at all.
Throw your party when you want. If people can come, great. If not (not everyone is off on Monday), no issues.
If you're going to be upset if people can't come, then don't throw the party at all
I think 3 day weekends are about getting together with close friends & family (even if it's a honoring someone's military service).

I don't get off that Monday so I don't even consider it a holiday weekend.

I don't see that one being a big deal. Have your party!

My wedding was the Friday evening of Columbus Day weekend. I didn't hear any complaints about it.

Re: Columbus Day Weekend Party?
Thanks. I figured that weekend would be ok. We have to do it on a Sunday (christening) and I thought it may work better for those who are lucky enough to be off on the Monday, especially because our families come from out of town.
I definitely wouldn't be upset if people couldn't make it. I just want to make it as easy as possible for those who can make it.
The biggest thing for me with having people drive on the holiday weekends is the traffic, but I was thinking the traffic wouldn't be as bad as the other holidays I mentioned.
Thanks again

Re: Columbus Day Weekend Party?
We're having DS' 1st birthday party on Labor Day weekend... I don't care if it's taboo! It's what worked best and if people have plans or don't want to come that's fine. We would be bbqing with our families that weekend anyway, so it's basically just a bigger version of that (we're having it in my IL's backyard). Go for whatever date works for you!

Re: Columbus Day Weekend Party?
Yeah I would say Columbus weekend doesn't really count and ur good. I really don't like when people have parties on other/bigger 3 day weekends bc we like to go away and we end up forced to forgo the whole vacation for a 4 hour party

Or you could just RSVP no
Honestly I don't get this. My DS was born on Labor Day weekend. We're always going to have his birthday party, big or small, on that weekend. It's not going to break my heart if friends or family can't come because they have planned a vacation for that weekend. The party is about him, not them. I cannot for the life of me understand why planning a party on ANY holiday is such a big friggin deal. If you don't like it, don't go. It IS that simple.

I guess it's because I would like to go to the party but at the same time I would like to go on my vacation. To me, it turns something nice into somewhat of an inconvenience. RSVPing no is obviously an option but I would like to say yes to both- kwim- and I personally would rather avoid putting people in the predicament by having the party the weekend before or after.
