cleaning granite

I know you aren't supposed to use ammonia based products right? What about vinegar? I bought windex with vinegar, can I use it on the granite?

this is what the windex site says:

Does Windex® Multi-Task Cleaner with Vinegar contain ammonia?
No. Windex® Multi-Task Cleaner with Vinegar does not contain ammonia. Its cleaning ingredients are detergents, solvents, and of course, vinegar. Windex® Multi-Task Cleaner with Vinegar is a great choice for use inside your home and auto.

Can I use Windex® Multi-Task Cleaner with Vinegar on my windows and mirrors?
Yes. Windex® Multi-Task Cleaner with Vinegar can be used on most surfaces. It's ideal to use on glass, chrome, stainless steel, plastic, enamel, ceramic time, vinyl, Corian®, and porcelain.

I wouldn't. I know you can't use pure white vinegar on any porous stone. You can use the the foam window cleaner or get a granite cleaner.

Absolutely NO AMMONIA based products!!!

Granite is a sealed stone and ammonia wears away the polished coating that they put on the granite.

My FIL is a kitchen designer and he's been dealing with his granite subcontractor for many years now...

The granite dealer told me...

Glass Plus... contains no ammonia and they use it in their own showroom. When I picked out my slab that is what they cleaned it up with.

or mixture of one part vinegar to three parts water in a spray bottle. Of course, this is the cheapest way to go and can be used on hardwood floors as well. I bought a gallon of Heinz white vinegar from Costco in the summer and still have it.

Vinegar is also a disinfectant.

ETA: The Windex with vinegar can be used on granite , windows, etc but the regular Windex contains ammonia... it can be used on windows but no stone surfaces like granite.

Re: cleaning granite

I use Glass Plus on a daily basis but I also use a Granite cleaner/polisher once a week. It was not expensive at all, I got it at the supermarket. Its called Weimans and its in a grey bottle, it works great.
