clean eating - what type of sliced bread do you buy?
I picked this White Spelt Bread up at the store the other day without reading ingredients. I saw the non gmo label & threw it in my cart. It contains unbleached white flour- that's not good for you, right?
and what the heck is spelt?

white flour has been processed and doesn't contain all the nutrients a whole grain or whole wheat does. Spelt is a variety of wheat - it is fine but it can also be processed so you should look for whole spelt.
i've been buying sprouted grains bread like ezekiel's. I like it but it defintely is different than regular bread so it might take awhile to get used to. I found bread at whole foods that was 100% whole wheat and only had a small handful of ingredients (i can't remember the brand i'll have to check)...you can also go to your local bakery and see if they make 1005 whole wheat bread.

I love the Shepard's Bread from Trader Joe's. It's a mix of grains and malts, really yummy. I actually dont eat bread too much though bc Im starting to get sensitive to gluten. I could switch to gluten free brands but I'd rather just cut out the bread LOL

thanks! TJ is kind of a trek for me but I'll have to try theirs next time.
I have bought ezekiel soft rolls before but I will try the sliced bread too. dh doesn't like his bread crunchy though so it should be fun switching

Bread made with sprouted grains will be your best choice, unless you can make your own soaked sourdough bread.
Otherwise, most store bought breads are full of processed junk.

I was just about to say I don't think "clean" and "bread" can go together. I don't eat 100% clean because so I do eat various breads sometimes. I just try my best to "mostly" eat clean and make clean choices whenever possible.

ha! thanks! I didn't think so either but wanted the advice of those who strive to eat clean. There is no way that I can live this lifestyle 100% but I'm trying to pick the better options if I can't pick the best.

I rarely eat bread, but when I do it is always Ezkiel Sprouted Grain Bread. It is more nutritious, flourless and has a low glycemic index. They have a whole line of sprouted grain products ( pasta, burrito wraps etc)
