CIO advice- doing thei TONIGHT

DS is 5.5 months. some nights, he is up every hour for his paci. so, i decided to cio.
i put him to bed at 6:30 wiht his paci. he woke about 7:45, screamed for 20 minutes, and went back to sleep.
heres my questions:

1. i normally feed around 4 am. i put him back down wiht a paci. would you give it him when i put him back down?

2. he went to sleep tonight wihtout nursing. absloutely refused. he had solids about an hour befroe, so maybe he wasnt hungry. Chat Icon who knows, anyhow, would you do a feed another feed- maybe around 11 tonight, if he wakes?

3. once they got over the inital screaming, did they keep waking? how often? i mean, could that 20 minutes have been it?

when i started cio i basically gave myself a time out before going in at EVERY wake up... typically i would go to the bathroom and give myself 10-15 before going in to make sure he really was awake....

Re: CIO advice- doing thei TONIGHT

I'm new in this department, DS is 6 months and we are in working progress of a sleep routine. He's doing really well with ours (started about 2 1/2 weeks ago). But all I can say is that all babies are different, so you'll have to figure out what works for you as far as if the 20 mins was all or not.

About the feeding, it's hard to say without knowing what he's eaten the whole day. There is a chance that he's taking those overnight feedings just for the coddling and they can maybe be dropped one by one with cio and the more solids he gets during the day???

I cannot really say about the paci. DS is not really a binky boy so we do not have that issue. And as the food intake changes, so will the sleep, at least it is for us.

Just throwing out ideas here about the paci... can DS get it in his mouth by himself? Maybe you can make it a daytime game to work on him learning to "bink himself" as we call it. My sister's friend said she leaves a few binks in the crib so that her DD could find one on her own. Sounds funny but she said it works! But I would try the CIO without the bink and see how he does.

Good luck! Chat Icon

Ha! Chat Icon I did that too! I'd go to the bathroom and/or call my mom to say "should I go in there"?! And sure enough before we finished a conversation, he'd be sleeping! I must give kudos to my mom! She was and is a great support in getting DS and me on a good routine!

If you can find yourself a good phone support "hotline" person, to help you out, that would be great too! A sister, mother, friend, etc. An experienced mom can hear the cry over the phone and tell you it's just fussing or it may be time for a back rub and cuddle (for the baby, not you Chat Icon ).
