BEIJING, China (CNN) -- The death toll from the devastating earthquake in southwestern China has leaped to 51,151 -- an increase of almost 10,000 -- government officials reported on Thursday.
The 7.9-magnitude quake injured 288,431 people, with another 29,328 missing, authorities said.

It's mind boggling and so tragic.
Of course the news here in So Cali are doing all kinds of Earthquake disater talk . It's time to scare the masses into
preparation....again...

I find it very difficult to comprehend. So many lives lost in just 5 minutes. I've stopped reading the news coverage on China and Myanmar, it's heartbreaking and frustrating.

pictures of family members crying over ruins (that obviously contain other family members) just makes me so so sad

I find it sooo sad. Because of the 1 child per family rule, some of these families have lost their legacy. A high school was completely destroyed and over 900 students died. They were almost all only children and now their parents are left without a child and no hope of continuing their family. It is so sad in so many ways.
