Children at the salon

Do you ever bring DC with you to the hair salon or nail salon? If so, what are their ages? I never do. I always try to schedule so that I can go when DH is home to watch DS. My close friend who works in an upscale hair salon told me to just bring DS with me the next time ( I was having difficulty finding a time when DH was home). I thought people go to the salon to get away from it all...maybe I'm being silly. What are your thoughts?

Personally I would not do it unless I absolutely had to.

Re: Children at the salon

Yes, I have brought DD with me to the nail salon, she is 2 and has gotten her nails painted while I get a pedicure. She LOVES it and the women at the nail place adore her.

I have also brought both of my sons with me for haircuts, etc. I am a SAHM, no nearby "help" and DH works late nights. So they come wherever I need to go. They are well behaved, I bring things for them to do. I have never had a problem.

NO, and aside from my kid being a lunatic and loves to run. That is MY time, for ME and no one else.

I was thinking about bringing my son the other day to get a pedicure, but then decided not to. I will just wait until I have someone to watch him.

Nope... not until DD is older and we can do mani/pedis together. Until then... the salon (hair/nail) is MY Calgon Take Me Away Time!

Never ever take DD to hair or nail salons. Too much fumes.

No way! Combo of my kids being loud when they are together and the aggravation I would feel after I left what should have been a relaxing time.

I'll go six months without a haircut before I bring them with me!Chat Icon

That is exactly how I feel about it...I was going to take him with me and I walked in to the salon, the smell was overwhelming and I just decided against it.

Re: Children at the salon

Never.

The nail salon has too many fumes even for me, but deal. I don't bring my kid though.

I don't bring them to the hair salon because I can't imagine trying to keep tabs on them while my hair is getting done.

Re: Children at the salon

Thats so funny, last time I went they told me to bring the baby next time too. I would only bring him to show them once, if my mother was with me.

For a regular appt though I definitely try to schedule a weekend so DH is home with the baby. I like those 2 hours to myself, even though I've only done it once since he's been born! Chat Icon

Re: Children at the salon

No. I takes at least 2 hours for me to get my hair done. I wouldn't do that to my child, me, the colorists/stylists, or to the other customers.

However, I've seen other moms do it. It's not relaxing for them, so I'm sure if they had other options, they would have had their kids stay home.

If your friend/stylist said it's fine, then maybe it's not that big of a deal.

Re: Children at the salon

NO!

unless you are a personal friend to the salon owner, manager etc, and its a really slow day

my stylists has been wondering where I've been and is hounding me to bring my 2 month old to the salon so she can see him... I probably would if he didn't hate the carseat/carrier so much

I don't, just because I hate the thought of exposing them to all those fumes and sprays, etc.

Re: Children at the salon

I can see bringing an non-crawling infant to the salon on a slow afternoon and I would probably do that if I had to. I saw a mom getting a pedicure while wearing her napping newborn before and thought what a great idea for a little relaxation.

But I wouldn't bring an older child there just to sit around. I went for a pedicure recently and saw two mothers with their young children just standing beside them while they got their pedicures and manicures. #1 - my DD would never stand silently for 1+ hour while I did that and #2 - I think it's quite mean to make them wait around like that.

Re: Children at the salon

Usually no, but I was in a pinch once and brought DD with me while I got my hair cut. She was 2.5. Everyone was excited to finally get to meet her and she behaved very well. That being said, I still try to get a sitter for when I go so I can use that time to relax a little. I have never brought her to a nail salon though.

Not to a nail salon, but he has come with me to get my brows done and a quick hair cut.

Sorry, flame if you want, but my DH works nights and doesn't work M-F. My parents live an hour plus away (and I'd like to save their babysitting for when I really need it) so DS really comes with me everywhere

I don't because of the smell. Also, it's my time to relax and get pampered!
