Changing formula... some questions

Chat Icon was on Enfamil Lipil with iron until recently. As a newborn he was gassy, but it was manageable. Never really spit up. The last few weeks he was starting to get more cranky after eating and started spitting up a lot. We switched his formula over to Gentlease. Seemed to help, he seemed more comfortable and less spitting up, but had very loose BM. At the doctor this weekend we mentioned this and he tested Chat Icon and found a milk protein allergy. Switched his formula to Nutramagin, which is very expensive. He seems to be responding well to this as well, except he is doing a LOT of spitting up. Mentioned it to the doctor and he said it seemed odd, but to give it a few more days. If it doesn't get better he'd like us to try Similac Alimentum.

Is spitting up a "side effect" of adjusting to the new formula? Could something else be causing this? I am wondering if maybe it isn't acid reflux... but I don't know much about it. WHat are the signs and symptoms of this?

None of this is affecting his personality- he is still as happy as ever... we just want him to be comfortable (and keep the formula down!).

Any information would be great! TIA! Chat Icon

Re: Changing formula... some questions

DD never spit up when we switched her to the Alimentum...she made some funny faces, b/c she didn't like it at first, but other than that no probs.

BTW...call your insurance company and see if they will cover any/all of the cost of the formula. Since DD was diagnosed Colic, we don't pay for her formulaChat Icon

Unfortunately, they only cover prescription formula... Spitting up is much better today though! Hopefully it stays that way! Thanks!
