Catholic Baptism question...

...okay, I don't mean to sound like an idiot....we went to the parents meeting for DS Baptism and the nun kept referring to the childs "chosen name for baptism"--I thought we just used his "regular" name, but she made it sound like that was not the case....of course I didn't ask because I assumed DH knew what she was talking about....and he assumed I knew! I thought you only chose a confirmation name??

Re: Catholic Baptism question...

It is the child's full name....whatever you named him/her on her birth certificate. (In the old days, they would "make" you change the name/reverse it if it were not a saint's name).

Re: Catholic Baptism question...

we are catholic and baptized both of my children, and I never heard of them referring to a name like that?

I'm confused too!

Did you call the church for clarification?

Re: Catholic Baptism question...

yes......that is exactly what was said to us word for word.

They will ask you that on the actual day too.

The chosen name is his birth name. it's the name both you and DH chose and now you are baptizing him/her with it.

Re: Catholic Baptism question...

thanks ladies....I'm just going to use his full name.....I think she was referring to the whole saints name thing.....I just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally missing something...now hopefully my mom finished sewing his outfit---otherwise then we are really in trouble!

Re: Catholic Baptism question...

at our church I remeber them saying something about a name being a saint. but didn't have to. Rose is her middle
& is a saint, so we did not need to worry
