Can you recommend classes for a shy/speech-delayed 3yr old?

Hi moms!

I haven't been on in some time, and was hoping you might be able to advise.

My DD has just turned 3, and was just discharged from Early Intervention with flying colors. However, she is still speech-delayed, and as such, we are not comfortable with her being in a traditional 2 or 3 times a week nursery program away from us; rather, we are looking for classes where we could be with her, or near her, but wherein she could still learn, have fun, and interact with her peers.

So far, we are looking into Music Together and a creative movement class at a local dancing school.

TIA for your suggestions and input! Also, if any moms have dealt with a similar situation, I would love to hear from you.

I was going to suggest Music Together. Or library classes with book reading (they are also free).

I am an SLP.

The Happy Bookworm (though she may be at the top of the age grouping). Try the library's story time too.

Also, check with the local universities that have speech-lang. programs (Hofstra, Adelphi, and Post).

Sometimes they have groups/classes for kids (I know someone who did Post's classes but I don't know the age range on it) or they may even have weekend/evening classes through the university's programs for kids. You can contact LISHA (Long Island Speech-Lang. Hearing Assoc.) to see if they have any recommendations too (www.lisha.org). BTW, I'm a SLP.
