My DS was a piece of cake at 2.....3 was a whopper and 4 hasn't been a heck of a lot better Chat Icon ....Very argumentitive , opinionated, stubborn you get the picture - think teen-ager Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My thoughts exactly. I have to say that Jack is getting better and better everyday. The first six months of the 2s was absolutely terrible. I'm hoping that he made me suffer so much in the 2s that the three's will be just fabulous! Chat Icon

I'm hoping this is true also! I think DS started to get really difficult around 19-20 months, so by that reckoning, he should turn into an angel any day now.Chat Icon

Re: Can we talk about the "trying threes" (terrible twos a yr late?)

Funny you should post this. Sabrina is turning three next month and from 18 months to 2.5 she was really challenging. She seemed to really become cute and lovable after 2.5 and developed a really REALLY adorable personality. Very loving, very kind, VERY polite. Not a pushover, but just a great little girl.

Now this past week, I think someone is switching her out for a few hours and replacing her with a 13 year old. One moment I am her best friend and she is hugging me and the next she is screaming "no" and throwing things.

I am hoping that this will pass or else she may end up an only child.Chat Icon

Re: Can we talk about the "trying threes" (terrible twos a yr late?)

I originally was thinking maybe I would talk to Samantha's dr since I was relating it to her insulin, but then after talking to her bff's mom, she told me she is having the same issues (only worse, her daughter has bit her and hit her! - making Sam look like a great gril still lol...) and after speaking with a few other moms i realized it was an age thing, not a diabetes one persay! its weird, she is "bad" then so sweet again....I think she is just trying to figure out her place too...hopefully its short!!!

You've gotta be kidding me!!!! Marron also was sweet as pie at 2. I honestly thought we escaped the bad behavior period. Then she turned 3, and it was like somebody turned on the lightswitch! Seriously, it was almost overnight that she turned "bad". As you said, argumentative, opinionated and stubborn. She is coming up on 4 soon and I was hoping it would start getting better, but it is not...recently she has started with the temper tantrums...ugh, I just keep hoping we are approaching the eye of the storm!

Re: Can we talk about the "trying threes" (terrible twos a yr late?)

Yeah, 3 is really, really tough. I would say the first 6 months of three were unbearable, but now that she's rounded the corner towards 4, she's really back to normal again. I once read that they get worse around their birthdays and mellow out halfway through the year because of hormonal changes around their birthdays. I don't know if that's true or not, but it seems to by for Ava.
I've found that extreme consistency with her behavior has really helped. We cannot give her any wiggle room or else se takes full advantage. So first offenses get a warning, second time straight to time out. Or if it's something really bad, first offense gets a warning and second time gets a consequence, like no tv, no bedtime books, etc. Seems to work. Also, we never shy away from a tantrum. If she's going to explode, we put on our parenting armor and go into battle because whenever we've tried to divert a tantrum, she just gets worse and worse.
But it's scary because she's like a freaking ticking time bomb some days!!!

Hopefully girls are different Chat Icon

The only improvement over "3" seems to be that as argumentive and stubborn that he can be, he is starting to show some eagerness to please, and has more of a conscience than in the past...

Also, he is very into his reaward chart and earning "stars" , where as at 3, I don't think he totally grasped that concept...At 4 (even though still impulsive) , he does "try" to curb himself a bit more !
