can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

I seriously don't know what to do...

With Noah ..well..was different..he napped whenever.wherever.

The girls need a schedule..the 2 naps are too much.

Here's our kinda schedule
Wake at 7:30 ish..breakfest is 8-8:15

Lunch is at noon

I can't make lunch earlier b/c Noah gets on the bus at 11:45...and I can't leave them in highchairs with food or anything while I'm taking him outside....

Dinners at 5-5:30

Right now they are going in at random times...usually 10:00 till 11:30-12:00

And

2:30-4:00-4:30

But one of these usually is them crying the entire time..one of them they sleep.

I'm stuck

Please help

Re: can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

Ian takes one nap now...but sometimes hes so tired i'll put him down for 2.

7 - wake up and milk
8:30 - breakfast
11:30 - lunch and milk
12 - nap
3 - milk
5 - dinner
6:30 - bedtime

he'll get so tired after lunch he'll pass right out.

can you give lunch at 11 and then put them down right before you take DS to the bus?

Re: can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

When I did it with Ryan he was napping 10-11 and 3-430/5. Going to sleep at 7:30.

I pushed his am nap to 12(ish) and skipped the pm nap, but put him bed a little earlier, 7osh.

Then over time it has slowly moved. Now at 2.5 he naps 2-4ish and goes to bed at 8. I have a feeling I need to drop the nap completely soon. But on days he doesn't nap he is a monster by 6...its terrible.

I would try to put then down for a nap right after lunch. You may not be able to get them that late at first which might be an issue with Noah's bus but try to get them to wait until at least noon for a nap.

This is Liam's schedule
7 am wake - milk
830 - bfast
1145 or 12- lunch
1230- 230 ish nap (longer on daycare days...sometimes less at home)
230 snack
5 dinner
7 milk
730 bedtime

Re: can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

They say the optimal time for a single nap is one that starts any time between noon and 2 PM, so I would just start pushing their morning nap a little bit later and later every week until they hit 12:30ish, and make their 1 nap from 12:30 to 2:30, right after lunch.

I would give them lunch at 11am and then put them down either before you take Noah out to the bus or right after. They will be cranky longer in the am, but eventually they will even out. I remember with DS there were some days that he still needed to be put down for his early nap so just be flexible during the transition.

Heres the thing with that..

From 11-11:35 ( when we start waiting for the bus is SO hectic here..getting him dressed, and snack ready, notes to the teacher etc. Its the most hectic time of the day and to try to fit lunch into that scares me.

PLUS they have been sometimes sleeping till 8 :00 lately 9 a lot lately)
They go to bed at 7pm.

Anyway, eating breakfest at 8:15 ish and then lunch at 11...they wont want lunch.

i think pushing the nap till like 12:30 works ok...

Lets see if I can do that....lol

Same here - Daycare set the schedule and we just follow it. It was a cranky first few days, but it works!!!!

Re: can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

When we went to one nap, I did lunch at noon and right down for a nap. It was great. It was one longer nap(2-3 hours)

Re: can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

This is the thing. If you are anything like me, somedays you NEED that morning nap.

Right now if Ty naps in the morning, he won't nap in the afternoon. I'm finding that it makes more sense for me to keep him up in the morning because then he takes a nice long afternoon nap (12:30-3)

But.....I'm human, and I'm exhausted, and some days (like today) I needed to put him down for a morning nap because there was just so much that I needed to do around the house (clean the floors, prepare dinner) So, he was up from 11:30 until bedtime.

So, long story short - keep them up if you can throughout the morning and put them down right after lunch. Chat Icon

That is what I would do. THey may not sleep that long at first but within a few days to a week they should be napping about 2 hours! Good luck!

This is pretty much our schedule too (i amde some changes), DS is 15 months. His nap ranges from 1.5hrs to 2.5 hrs yesterdayChat Icon The transition has been pretty easy, it just happened. I still try for 2 naps some days if he wakes up early, say around 7. He's been waking closer to 8 some days. With 1 nap, i don't think he's completely getting the rest he needs, he seems tired some days and he's taking longer to fall asleep (10-15 minutes vs 1-5 minutes) but he's adjusting. I won't lie though, some days i really miss the am nap, like today - rainy days make me stir crazy.

ETA: to make adjustments to the schedule and to add that DS is really good about staying awake until nap time so it hasn't been bad.

Oh gottcha, since they are sleeping so late I would def push lunch until after the bus then, that makes more sense. And then try for nap by 12:30 or 1. They will be really tired by then and probably cranky, but at least you should be able to get them both to sleep for a longer stretch. Good luck Chat Icon

Re: can someone walk me through..HOW to transition to 1 nap?

This is our schedule;

Wake around 8 am - milk
Breakfast anywhere from 8-9am
Fruit around 10/11 am
Yogurt at 11:30/12
Nap at 12/12:30 til 2/3
"lunch" when he wakes up
Dinner at 5/6pm
Bath at 7:30/milk and bed at 8 pm

We've been doing this for a month or so and it's been working great. The first week was a little rough cuz we had to keep him awake, but now it's fine.
