I was at LIJ and parked. An hour and a half later, $6 leaves my pocket. Seriously? Chat Icon Am I so out of reality that I missed that that is the norm? Chat Icon

Ummm...Yeah. Columbia Presby Hospital was $25 a day for anyone who wanted to visit me. We got ONE parking pass for DH's car for free parking when I had heart surgery there...that is it. My brother and SIL visited twice and it was $50 for them. It is really sleezy IMHO to make people pay outrageous amounts for parking at a hospital. Chat Icon

I agree. The hospital I work in charges close to $35 to park in the valet. Its outrageous, some of our patients are there for quite a few days and it adds up quick.

That just seems crazy to me. I don't think they charge to park at the hospitals near me (Mather/St. Charles) or any that I've been in or to like Good Samaritan, Southside or Franklin General.

Its pretty much the norm!

When I go for my procedures, the receptionist in the department I am visiting always gives me a pass for free parking. I have to pay when visiting someone.

out here, the hospital charges for parking for visitors...if you are a patient, they will validate in the hospital for you.

Or, if you are the new dad, you get a parking pass...

When I delivered, DH was parked for 27 hours. The person collecting tickets only looked at the time, not the day, so he only got charged for 3 hours. I was really curious what the cost would have been!

(Hopefully the ticket taker didn't get in trouble for his mistake.)

yep, that's normal. When my brother was at St. Francis for 2 months they gave the whole family parking passes.

At Jamaica I had to pay $8/day when I drove there.

thats cheap considering what I paid at Mt. Sinai in NYC. I think its $12 first hour, and then something like $28 for the day. It was insane. When my mom had her double lung transplant I was there everyday I spent close to $1,000 on parking alone.

edited to add we NEVER got a parking pass, no one was free, no matter what

same with MSKCC in the city

my Dad spent atleast $5K in parking

(my Mom was there for months at a time)

people would come around and offer to help pay for parking

but my Mom would always tell them to go help some who really needed it

that was just how she was

This I've heard of (my mom was offered a job there and this was one of the reasons she turned it down) but to pay for parking as someone visiting a patient, that I have never heard of.

Crazy if you ask me!
