Can babies get ashes today?
I can't remember if children need to have received communion or penance to receive ashes today.
Can a baptized one year old receive ashes today?

yes they can... i took the boys last year and now im running out the door to do it again now!
btw my kids werent even 1 yet when we went!

My MIL was going to take my DD too.

We're Catholic, but my DS goes to daycare at a Lutheran Church. They were offering ashes to all the babies and children. You had to sign a form to have your child receive ashes. I signed for him to receive them. I hope it's OK that he receive ashes from a Lutheran Church even though he's Catholic!!!

I asked a girl at work today, b/c i wanted to take Sammie. she said they have to be baptized first. my sis told me she thinks its communion that they had to receive first. Either way sammie hasnt received either, but the girl at work said the priest would bless her tho. So im going to take her anyway.

Lutherans and Catholics are both Christians and worship the same God. It's fine for a Catholic to get ashes at a Lutheran church.

Well...I am lutheran and get ashes at the catholic church, so I am guessing its ok

i know lutherans except other catholics, but i was told by a friend who is lutheran who spoke witha Roman catholic priest, and she was told Lutherans are not excepted to receive sacraments at a Roman catholic church. Isnt that weird?

I went to church with my parents and DD and the priest gave her ashes. He didn't dip his finger in and smear a big mess but just used whatever was on his finger after he gave them to my dad.
DD had so much fun! I always hesitated bringing her because I was afraid she would be loud but she was just happy and friendly.

Yes...I went today with DS, DH and my mom and the priest gave him ashes on his forehead and DS is 20 months old...
Of course they are gone now because he had a bath...
